Robert's Story
Rob is from Toronto, Ontario. His schools include A.Y. Jackson Secondary School (1996-1978) Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute (1978-1979). He later attended Glendon College York University and the University of Ottawa where he studied philosophy. He then completed a graduate diploma at the Institute of International Development and Cooperation at the University of Ottawa. After graduating he worked at Canadian International Development Agency for three years and then took a two year assignment with the Canadian Hunger Foundation in Guyana in 1990. In Guyana Rob met his wife Abby (married in 1992) and had two children: Andre (born 1994) and Angeline (born 1996).
In 1997 the family moved back to Ottawa where Rob worked with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) as a consultant. In 2000 he was posted to Accra Ghana as a governance advisor specializing in local governance and decentralized service delivery. In 2004 Rob was contracted to manage a CIDA-funded government capacity building programme in Lilongwe Malawi. Two years later he became the Director of the Malawi-Canada Programme Support Unit.

lawi Rob was hired by Belgium Technical Cooperation to serve as a local governance advisor in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. His main role was to coordinate donor support for local government reform in Tanzania related policy dialogue with the Government of Tanzania. He also managed Belgium's EUR 27 million contribution to local government reform in Tanzania.
After 14 years on assignment in Africa, in 2014 Rob and family moved back to Canada. They set up house in Kingston where Andre and Angeline attended Queens University.Rob and Abby expect to be heading back to Ottawa in the summer of 2014. Sadly, in 2015 Rob's beloved Abby was diagnosed with lung cancer and she succumbed to the disease in 2017. Inspired by Abby's life and love, Rob, Angie and Andre have soldiered on. Both kids graduated from Queens in 2018, Andre in Computer Science and Angie in Health Studies.
Rob is currently working with the World University Service of Canada (WUSC) as a Project Director based in Hanoi, Vietnam. Andre is also based in Vietnam, having decided to start his career in computer programming in SE Asia. Angeline is studying at Chiropractic College in North York.
