Robbin's Story

My Incredible Life: Crossed many Plains, shoot many Buffalo; step in Umgawah (BS) many times. I am currently residing in Canyon Lake, TX.. Still love music and motorcycles. No time for the entire novel at this time. Will respond cordially to any Q's or FAQ's Military 67-71 USN, 68-71 USS Kitty Hawk 3 (9 Mo.) tours Vietnam Gulf of Tonkin. 2yrs Navigation, 1 Yr AFRTS (Armed Forces Radio Television Broadcasting) Broadcaster (Rock DJ) Hometown: Houston, TX. I got out of the Navy the same day we returned from my 3rd and last "Cruise" (Tour of Duty) to Nam. I uncrated the Motorcycle ('71 Honda 750), assembled it and went into Town (San Diego) with my friend Chuck, where he bought a Triumph Bonneville. We proceeded to head East to explore a little of the America we spent 27 months defending. After three breakdowns of the Triumph, Chuck called a relative to come get him and I forged ahead as far as Midland/Odessa and reunited with my best friend Donnie and worked at a gas station there for about two weeks to get enough funds to make it back to Houston. Never made to NY. LOL. In a couple of weeks I had lobbied hard enough to score this great job as a Salesman for Decor Distributors. Soon after, I encountered an old Flame from Hartman Jr High and well... 3 yrs later we were married. During that initial 3yrs I had been consistently in the top 5 in sales among 60 salesmen in 5 states. This allowed me an opportunity for advancement so I accepted the challenge of taking over the Tulsa, OK. Territory, consisting of 1/4 of Oklahoma. I also managed to land a Gig working for KTBA radio in Broken Arrow, Broadcasting and selling Progressive Rock & Roll to All the Farmers.(Iron Maiden, Thin Lizzie, Dobie Brothers etc.) We were trying to reach Tulsa 25 miles away with the antenna sitting on top of a grain elevator. Great format but our signal was too weak to compete with KMOD's. Eventually I threw in the towel and shortly thereafter Roy Clark bought the station and was able to bring revenues up considerably with a Country format. I relocated back to Houston and 6 yrs later we divorced & I had managed to drink and drug myself out of the job, the company credit cards, the company Van, the new house in Webs...Expand for more
ter, the wife, the two kids, the dog and two cats. Five years later and an enormous amount of times in and out of jail for DWI and/or assault and battery and much heartache I found myself living in Austin sleeping under the stars on the only possession I had left... my most recent motorcycle a V 45 Magna 750. I realized I might have a problem because I thought it was a little unusual that sometimes the dog was the only thing I missed. I recall thinking; "If This is Freedom, why am I so Miserable?!" After a few suicidal musings of breaking Evel Knievel's records and jumping Lake Travis on the motorcycle (where my most recent geographical had guided me) . After pestering my Younger sister at 3am she decided to call my father and the next morning I found myself interviewing for a bed at Austin State Hospital (The Funny Farm). That was '83 and my introduction to recovery. That lasted 20 mos and I decided to play Scout and go back out and get a few arrows in my ass doing research for the next several months before Finally surrendering unknowingly to what was to become my final recovery in '85. This time I got to spend some time in Ventura County jail. A nudge from the Judge persuaded me to seek recovery once more and Sept 26th 1985 was my last drink, fix, pill or drug and I still pray that I will never have to do another detox! I did continue to move around searching for all the right conditions mostly weather. I was on that motorcycle for 12 years every day. I even lived in a tent for my first few years of recovery. LA was great for about 2 years but just one job away from despair. Las Vegas was about the same for a couple of years, but I discovered a new addiction and left the second woman I've ever really loved ( Donna) to head for Phoenix. I've Lived and loved and never lost or released a love that I don't still love. I've Entertained and sung my songs all over the country and I've always said there are only 2 places I'll ever go back to... that's Phoenix, Arizona and Austin, Texas. After residing in Phoenix for 13 years I returned to Kyle, TX (15 miles South of Austin). 2 years ago I retired & moved here to Canyon Lake which hopefully will ultimately be my final resting place.
