Robert's Story
I retired January2009 from the School District of Philadelphia after 31 years as a High School Social Studies Teacher and Technology Research Specialist . I have my Doctorate, Principal and Vice Principal Certifications, Computer Programming Certification, Technology Research Specialist Certification. I worked at Ben Franklin High, William Penn High, Franklin Learning Center High, South Philly High, Morton Elementary, and Bartram High.Since 1986 I fought with every Principal for technology for the students and usually won, I proved to them that's what the kids need, instead of boring books and lectures. West Chester University used my technology program as an education model.I went to college to be an Industrial Photographer and wanted to work for GE or DuPont, but when we graduated their was a recession and no Industrial Photography jobs available. n a living for my family and loved the "Maximum Money , Minimum Time" 3 o'clock days, snow days and long summer vacations and got spoiled with the life style. I also owned Little Darlings Day Care, Rainbow Express Transportation Company and 1/3 share owner of The Eighth Floor Night Club,while I worked for the School District. Sold them all and retired early to enjoy life. Now I travel the world and life is beautiful. The students in Philly are still getting robbed of a good education due to the morons in Administration who have no clue as to what the students need and want to keep them interested. The conditions of the schools are deplorable, rodents, roaches, broken lavatories, garbage for lunch, Libraries full with the same books we used from the 1970's and at Bartram no water fountains for the kids until 2008, but the water pipes are still full of lead. The schools in Iraq are better.
