Robert's Story
Life
Hello dear friends. After HS I went to Cal Poly for a year and to Citrus for
two. In '66 I was drafted (name begins with "A").Rather than go into the Army, I joined the Air Force. I hated the next four years with a passion. In 1967 I was given the "opportunity" to visit southeast Asia where I did "secret stuff" for the CIA and pretended to be in the AF. Totally embittered, depressed and disillusioned I got out of the AF in 1970. I lived for a year in Ventura where I partied a lot and tried to"forget." It didn't work! Totally
out of synch with the world, I became a retail manager and lived in Wichita, KS
for the next 6-1/2 yrs. In 1978 I came home to California where I became
Advertising Mgr.for the NHRA. From there I started my own Ad Agency, got
involved with cross-country ski racing and all sorts of athletic activities. I
remained in sales for over 20 years. In 1984 I met my wife, Ann. We have two sons, Teague(12) and Corey(9). Unlike most of my classmates I didn't have my first child until I was 43, but I did a lot of other neat stuff. In '92 the riots hit near our home in Inglewood. We left town to raise the boys in a climate more conducive to survival, ending up in Rockford, IL. Several years ago I started having "flashbacks" regarding my military experiences in southeast Asia. I "got help" and today I can laugh about my heroics and the stupidity I enjoyed as a youth. In 2000 I finally got a college degree (Computer Science)and I am presently working on a memoir regarding my Vietnam era experiences and my 33-year bout with PTSD. I have already published one book, and I build Web sites for small companies. I work from home and do the "mom" stuff while my wife is at work. There is a lot more to this story. It hasn't always been fun, but I have to say, "It has been interesting and challenging." I am looking for...Expand for more
ward to hearing from you and I hope there is going to be a 40-year
reunion (e-gad!)so I can come out to visit. Bob
(UPDATE-UPDATE-UPDATE)
The Class Reunion came and went and it turned out to be even more enjoyable than I could have imagined. I returned to Rockford and my family where I remain to this minute. I continue to work on computers, sell stuff on eBay, and try to remain alive. In 2006 I drove a forklift for a few months but I dropped too much stuff so I am now a Substitute Teacher (K-12) in the Rockford Public Schools. God! I finally appreciate teachers and what we put them through when we were kids. My Wife of 20-years got tired of living with me (or "putting up with my crap" as she would say) So now I am on my own again living with my 14-year-old son (she doesn't like him either)in the attic of an old house in Rockford. It's not the best of all arrangements but now I do have a little more time to work on my wood carving and writing music. I'm even thinking of starting up a new "Folk-Type" singing group. Maybe there's a place for some of the hundreds of songs I have written.
Maybe I will update this profile again in a couple of years. Let's all hang in there. Bob
Time to add a little more (6-10-08) Been separated for almost two years now. Got back into creative endeavors which was long overdue. Divorce will be complete before the end of 08. Songwriting is now a passion and I even have a few published. No hits yet but I feel it is only a matter of time. Mostly Country but some Pop tunes too. I have been substitute teaching and doing some promotional and sponsorship work too. Health is disgustingly good. I am not on any medications whatsoever. How many of you can say that? So I am single and available again but don't try to get close to me for my money. I don't have any. I just have health and stamina.
