Robert's Story
Life
Wife Carol and I are property catastrophe insurance adjusters and have worked property claims in Mississippi and Alabama from Hurricane Georges (1998), a Nor'easter in Buffalo, NY and Hurricanes Floyd and Irene in Maryland, Delaware and Virginia (1999), freeze, wind & hail, fire, water, lightning, liability and mold claims in the Midwest (2000-2004), Hurricanes Charley, Frances and Jeanne in Orlando, FL area and Hurricane Ivan in Florida and Alabama (2004-2005) We worked a claims desk at Zurich North America in Schaumburg, IL from Sept. 2005 to June, 2008 for Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma.
We live in Omaha in what we call a 2-1/2 story "closet".
We have 6 of the most beautiful granddaughters in the universe!! They are 12, 10, 9, 8, 7 and 4. And our daughter of the 12-year and her husband gave us our first grandson in Dec. 2008. They live about 75 miles south of Schaumburg, so we got to see them quite often when we were there.
I have also been a free-lance writer off and on for the last several years. Was a contributing writer for Omaha Magazine for a time and sold articles to several national magazines. I'm currently working on the Great American Novel and a screenplay, so I'll let you know when I hit the "big time."
Can't believe we '61 grads are on Medicare. But life has been very good and the only thing I regret is not getting a college degree. Having taken classes at several colleges and universities, I'm about 17 hours sh...Expand for more
ort of a degree in communications at the University of Nebraska Omaha. I've checked into several on-line universities and will probably get going next year. Looks like not all credits will transfer, so it might take a year to two, but I still hope to walk down the aisle some day.
In April of 2007 Carol and I took our entire family to Hawaii. There were 16 of us, ages 2-92 (my mom is now 87, Carol's mom was 92. She died this year in March at age 95). We flew to Honolulu and then boarded the Pride of Aloha and sailed to Kauai, the Big Island and Maui. We rented cars on each of the islands and motored around each, stopping at every inviting beach (not aware that one of them was nude). Thank goodness we discovered that before the granddaughters did). I'm still trying to organize my 650 digital photos and Carol's 580. (No, none from the nude beach!!)
We decided to take 2009 off and have enjoyed several trips around the U.S., including New Orleans, Laughlin and Lake Tahoe, NV, and Chicago several times. And in September we went to Manhattan for our 36th anniversary. We saw all the sights and went to "Phantom of the Opera." Great trip!! we also did some remodeling of our "closet", including a new library for our 800+ books.
Guess I've gone on long enough. If any of you are in the Omaha area or planning to visit, send me an email and I'll give you my phone number so we can have dinner or get together somewhere.
