Robert's Story
Life
I retired from the Marine Corps in 1999 after 20 years and 2 days. I've had like 6 jobs since then. I'm searching for the job that best suits me. I have son, born in 1985, and a daughter, born in 1988. I'm nuturing and doing the best I can to support their launch into the working world. Once they're independent I will express a sigh of relief - aaah finally!
School
I went to school in my home town for 10 years. My 11th grade year I went to a military school in south Texas. I returned home for 12th grade; military school was a bit draining on the parents' funds.
At times I wish I had waited til 12th grade to go to military school - they would have pushed me more toward college. Instead I got reeled in by a Marine Corps recruiter.
On the other hand, I did my twenty years and retired at 38. So now I have a little monitary backup as I experience different jobs. Its a little scary, but not extremely, as I sample different jobs to find the right one.
College

computers, writing about poetry, developmental composition, intermediate college algebra. Closer to retiring I obtained a certificate in electrical/electronic technologies. I took National Electric Code Calculatons and Conduit Fundementals. Three years after retiring (2002) I took a Basic Law Enforcement Training course at the community college.
Workplace
I did 20 years and 2 days in the Marine Corps. I retired in 1999. Since then, I've had like 6 jobs. Still looking for the right one. I've been: an electrician apprentice twice, airline ramp agent, taxi cab driver, used car salesman, labor dispute/strike security officer, deputy sheriff, and I still have applications for like 6 different occupations.
Military
I spent 20 years 2 days in the Marine Corps. I had fortunate assignments. I made E-7 pretty fast, but I stayed there. I looked good on paper. No challenges in my life have changed me to who I wish I could be. I look at least 10 years younger than my age. People are shocked when I tell them I retired from the Marine Corps.
