Robert Baker:  

Life After graduating from Oberlin College in 1968, I spent three years in the Peace Corps in Sierra Leone, teaching math in high school. Upon my return to Cleveland , Kay Jacoby '65 and I married, and then moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, where she worked as a nurse and I graduated from Golden Gate University School of Law in 1976. Our marriage did not survive law school. I worked for a year in San Francisco, primarily on the 6th Circuit appeal in the Kent State Shootings civil case, before moving to West Virginia in 1977 and starting my career in legal services, eventually becoming the director of the Appalachian Research and Defense Fund, an LSC funded program. I finished my career with Legal Aid of West Virginia, the statewide program created by the merger of the four LSC funded programs in West Virginia in 2002. My Spouse Ruth and I met in Beckley, West Virginia, at a gathering of friends, some 35 years ago. She is a 1967 graduate of Grinnell College who came to West Virginia with the Appalachian Volunteers, and then VISTA after college. She worked in the Raleigh County Schools as an elementary school counselor.. My Kids My son Kevin graduated Wesleyan University in Middletown, CN, in 2004; and iAmerican U.
