Robert's Story
Life
I moved away from Chicago Heights in 1983 and have only visited since. When I go back, I find the town has changed so dramatically that it truly is no longer home. I find it sad that so much of what I thought would be forever is in fact gone. Bloom with its Art Deco tower, is still a marvel to behold, at least in my opinion. I remember the "Bumsteer" restaurant being katty corner to the school, and I even remember the "Builder's Emporium" at the South end of the Bloom Township Market, well before the thrift store, and Frank's Electric Cars came in there. Even that was ages ago. Guess I am getting older. Now even the Jewel Building is gone. Anyway, I currently teach Sixth Grade Science in Culp...Expand for more

School
I started off in Highland Elementary, for K-4th grades. I do not remember for the life of me who was my Kindergarten teacher. Mrs. Herman was my first grade teacher, Miss Jansen my second, and Mrs. Flavin my third. Mrs. Dwyer ended up my Highland years. Mr. Bogan (God Bless his soul) was a most equitable and gentle giant of a man. He was just a huge teddy bear, and I respected him and grew to love him as a father type figure. If you know him, (and was not always in his office!) then you well know the man of whom I speak.
