Robert's Story

Life My life since George Dewey/Subic Bay and L&M High Schools has been an interesting one. Currently, I work as a clinical professor in the MBA Program of CUNY Baruch College's Zicklin School of Business where I concentrate on strategy execution, change management, and turnaround management and financial restructuring. In addition, I'm working on completing my first book "Lead, Follow or Get the Hell Out of the Way: Driving Rapid and Enduring Performance" while producing and hosting two successful internet talk radio programs ("podcasts") entitled "CEO Talk Radio" and "CFO Talk Radio." When time allows, I also do some limited consulting with New York Stock Exchange ("NYSE") listed companies. I began working as a consultant and professor shortly before my prior employer, the Royal Bank of Scotland's American headquarters (covering North and South America) moved from New York City to Stamford, Connecticut. At the time, I was a vice president with RBS covering highly-leveraged transactions (aka "leveraged buyouts") working out of New York City and, for six-months, London, England. I accepted my position at RBS after having lived in South Korea for two years and before that was employed as an assistant vice president of corporate banking for Mizuho Corporate Bank in New York City. On September 11, 2001, the 2nd aircraft flew directly into our offices on the 71st and 72nd floors of the South Tower of the World Trade Center. Over 20 of our friends and colleagues were killed. Following the attack, Mizuho Corporate Bank moved to temporary offices to Mid Town Manhattan within the buildings that constitute the Rockefeller Center Complex. One week after the 9/11 attacks, an Anthrax-laced letter was mailed to Rockefeller Center and we were evacuated. Fortunately, that's been the last of my direct experience with terrorism in NYC!! As a result of the terrorist attacks and weak economy, Mizuho laid off over 60% of their North American staff... myself included. With severence check in hand, I moved to South Korea where I lived with my wife, Jade, and our newborn baby, Kristen, in South Korea. I then returned to the Northeast and found a new position in corporate banking covering leveraged finance for The Royal Bank of Scotland. Following High School, I graduated from Vincennes University before completing my undergraduate studies at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. with a Bachel...Expand for more
oreate in international economics and foreign affairs. Later, I received a graduate degree from New York University in competitive strategy and corporate finance. In addition to my education, I'm particularly proud to have had the opportunity to live in Honolulu, Hawaii; Seoul, South Korea; Scottsdale, Arizona; Boston, MA; and, of course, New York, NY. As I mentioned earlier: my life since high school has been an interesting one!! College Georgetown University was great. Unfortunately, I was involved in a serious relationship and had to work my way through school. As a result, I really didn't have the opportunity to make many life-long friends. Although I really appreciate my education, I realize that I missed out on a lot that Georgetown had to offer. Oh well... strangely enough, I've made a lot of friends who are Georgetown alumni now that I live in New York City. Workplace After graduating from Georgetown, I accepted a job in Honolulu working for FirstHawaiian Bank's corporate banking group. Two years later, I moved to New York City to begin graduate studies at New York University and worked at Credit Lyonnais Americas, Deloitte Consulting, and to Mizuho Corporate Bank (formerly Fuji Bank, the Industrial Bank of Japan, and Diachi Kango Bank.) On September 11, 2001, the second aircraft flew directly into Mizuho's offices on the 71st and 72nd floors of the south tower of the World Trade Center. We lost two dozen of our friends and colleagues during the attack. Following 9/11, I spent 2 years living in South Korea and then worked for 5-years as a vice president covering highly leveraged transactions ("leveraged buyouts" or "LBOs") for The Royal Bank of Scotland located a block south of Grand Central Station and at RBS' London headquarters on Bishopsgate in London, England.
