Robert's Story
As of 1/30/2013
Went to Highland then KSU. Graduated '70 in Statistics. Waited 22 years then went back for Masters at Baker - graduated in 94.
Joined National Guard in '70 because my lottery was #5. (That's the only lottery I've won). Retired in 92.
Worked for ATSF Railway started 11/70 -Retired from BNSF (merged with BN Railway) in Oct 2008. Just been having fun ever since.
Married Bev in '75. Have 3 grown boys - all married. Have 3 granddaughters - Reagan, Ema, and Lily, plus 3 grandsons, Brenden, Jackson, and Brady. Bev and I will be spending a lot of our time visiting grand children. Tony is a Blackhawk pilot for US Army - currently home after 1 year tours in Egypt and Afghanistan - with Laura, Reagan and Brenden. Russ, Operations Mgr for company in Mineral Wells, Laci, Ema and Brady live just 2 miles away - just far enough but still close enough for us to babysit. Brian, a Supervisor for Costco, Carrie, Jack and Lily live iv Crowley - about a 40 minute drive from us.
Moved to TX in 97 - with BNSF - and plan to stay here (no snow!!!) although it did take Bev about 5 year...Expand for more
s to adjust to the 100+ degree summers. (She thought Texas was a 4-letter word and began with an "H" for the longest time). Winters here are definitely a plus. Did get one 14" snow a couple years ago and in 2010 had snow and ice that stayed around a "whole" week. This summer (2011) has been a lot different. Think we already have 2nd place for longest stretch of 100+ degree days and it's only mid-August. There should still be enough time to get in a 2nd stretch to vie for 1st or 3rd longest stretch before "fall" sets in. That will be about Christmas for you "northerners". (I can say that now although the true Texans, if there really are any left, would not claim me as a true Texan).
Lots of stuff to do here and many places we haven't seen. That's the plan, beginning 11/2008, See it all and go anywhere on a whim. If we see something that looks good/fun - pack up and go see it. Been a slight detour from the plan though. This school year 2012-13 we are the host family for an exchange student from Italy. Has been a great experience and Bev finally got her daughter to take shopping.
