t to Scott A.F. Base in IL. about 25 Mi. from St.Louis Mo.to take my training in Doppler and Search Radar repair and maintenance. Was assigned to Gifu A.B.in Japan, and I really liked it there, beautiful hills and friendly people. Then the whole base was moved to Okinawa and was located at Kadena A.B. I was retrained there to repair radio relay equipment. This was the 2nd Radio Relay Squadron or the"Golden Mountain Goats" as we referred to ourselves.I liked Okinawa very much and even sat out Typhoon Faye in 58 After that tour of duty I was sent to Walker A.F. Base in N.M. to finally work on Doppler and Search Radar. This was a SAC.Base in the 6th Bombardment Wing, and all the work was on B-52s and KC-135 Refueling Planes.I was there when one of the worst crashes in Base history occured.just narrowly escaping before the plane hit the one behind the one I was working on.Was really my lucky day.
