Robert's Story

Life I'm retired from the Coast Guard and lived in Anchorage Alaska for 4 years but moved to South Dakota June 2010. My oldest Daughter returned to school for her Masters Degree, 2nd Daughter just completed 2 years of College and was married Dec 31 2009. My Son graduated High School in Anchorage May 2010 and graduated from college here in South Dakota in 2014. I have been around the world in my lifetime and have criss crossed the country, being born in Everett, moving to Tacoma, then living in Wiesbaden Germany for 4 years as a little tyke. Returning home and growing up in Tacoma from 4th grade to High School Graduation, moving 2 days after graduation to Anchorage Alaska, I joined the Coast Guard in November 1986 and was stationed in Cape Cod, Boston, St. Louis, Seattle, Kodiak Alaska for 6 years & Honolulu Hawaii for 6 years. The greatest thing about the Coast Guard is the bases are generaly in resort areas, the bad thing about that is, the high cost of living in those places. Divorced since 2004, I Retired from the Coast Guard in Honolulu on July 2006 after 20 years and lived in Anchorage Alaska until 2010 when I moved to South Dakota. Then moved again in 2017, I now live in Reno NV. I sure enjoyed the 20th year reunion although I only had 2 hours sleep the two days prior to it. I'll saw many of you at our impromptu. 30th reunion. I would love to hear from all of you.. yes you too..!!!! School 2 days after I Graduated from High School, I packed my bags and moved to Anchorage Alaska, began working for Fred Meyer, then managed a Squire Shop mens clothing stores (Do they even have those stores now?)in 86 when the Alaskan economy went poof, I joined the Coast Guard, and got married 4 days after boot camp, moved to Cape Cod, then to Boston, Seattle, St. Louis, Kodiak Alaska, Honolulu and now back to Anchorage. I'm divorced, have 3 kids, one in a Masters Degree Program, one just finished College, and my youngest is a Junior in High School. I have been active in community service and helping others, guess that is why I joined the Coast Guard too. My work in the Coast Guard was rewarding, protecting the homeland, keeping bad people out, keeping drugs off the streets, protecting our navigatable waterways, saving lives, etc. While I didn't actually physicaly do most of these things, I did work to support it in a logistical capacity. I retired in July 2006 bought a house and settled down in the Anchorage, I have traveled all over Europe, Asia and North America. I have been to every state of this great land as well as Mexico and Canada and I'm happy...Expand for more
to settle down and plant roots. Send me an email, let me know how you are doing. College I attended college part time while working and raising a family all while my marriage was crumbling, so I earned every credit I got. While there was actual classroom study, many of the credits I received were from Military Experience as well as CLEP/DANTES courses which added up enough for me to apply for a degree. I managed to excell in Business, English, Speech, etc. So I guess I have the talents to become a slick smooth talking businessman, I just hate to lie, so I guess that's out. I have recently earned my AS in Admin/Management Studies. I retired from the Coast Guard July 2006 and lived in Anchorage Alaska for four years before moving to South Dakota, where I have kind of settled in, ready to put my experience and degree to work in the private sector. Workplace I have had the unique opportunity of being able to travel and live in many diverse places. I have been all over Asia (Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Laos, Korea), Europe (Germany, Italy, Austria, France, Netherlands) and have been to every state in this country and through Canada and Mexico. I have been stationed aboard two ships and lived the life of a sailor, I was stationed in Boston, Seattle, St. Louis, Kodiak Island Alaska and Honolulu. I finaly settled down and retired from the Coast Guard in July 2006. Military I joined the Coast Guard in Nov. 1986. Married on Dec 28 1986 4 days after Graduating boot camp on Dec 24 1986. My first Duty Station was the Coast Guard Cutter Bittersweet, and it was, very bittersweet. I had the most difficult time in my career there adjusting to life in the Military. After that I was stationed in Boston, moved to Seattle, then another Cutter in St. Louis, working up and down the Missouri river. Transfered to Kodiak Island Alaska, stayed there nearly 6 years and moved to Honolulu in 2000. I retired from the Coast Guard in Jul. 2006. The below are a few things a Classmates "Story Wizard" asked, as if I needed a little help bragging... Enjoy I always wanted to be a Famous Singer when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was an unwise idea. As it turns out, they were right in my case. Growing up, my hero was John Wayne, as I got older, I realized that the traits I admired in him, were the ones my Dad had, so it was my Dad who was my hero all along. If I won $100 million, I'd give half of it to a trust fund for my kids, then spend the rest on a large piece of property and build a large log cabin, give 10% to charity and help those who need a leg up.
