Robert's Story

Dearest Friends, How time flies ? Just got my old age pension and chuckling away at it.... After leaving St. Pat's in 1965 I didn't stay around Grand'Mère I amplied to join the RCMP but was decline the opportunity, tried for Montreal Police and same thing there happened as well as QPP. So I worked as a journeymen in Montreal at two different places and in 1966 at 4 PD I joined the Canadian Armed Forces, there I was accepted, and at the time 20 years of age I took what they gave me and ended up in the Armoured Corps, Basic Training was done with the BlackWatch in Gagetown, Trade School in Borden and had the choice of two postings Petawawa or Calgary with the Fort Garry Horse. I took the last one. I loved the West and cherished it greatly. In 1969 the 4th Combat Group was being formed in Valcartier Quebec and seeing I spoke French I was posted to Valcartier to the 12thRBC (French Armoured Regiment) not to my liking in any way. Participated in the War Measure Act in 1970 in Montreal and 1971 to 1974 I was posted to the RCD's in Lahr, Germany. I was still single at the time and I made life hard on me during those years. Returned back to Valcartier in 1974. In 1975 I was posted on an UN duty in Egypt for 6 months with 73 Sigs Squadron. Return to Valcartier and early 1977 I met a girl who came from the same city where I was born in Grand'Mère and mid 1977 I was posted to another UN duty in Cyprus for 6 months. During that time kept a close contact through corresponding with my girl friend. During that same year I applied for a remuster to the AirForce as a SSTech. After Cyprus I remustered to the AirForce after having completing my trade School in Borden Ontario to Saftey System Tech and and the choice of posting to Chillawick and Bagotville. I took Bagotville as my wife to be, prefered for the language preference so we ended up in Bagottville and lived in Chicoutimi till my medical release in 1980. We married in July of 1978. Return back to Grand'Mère for 6 years and worked here and there and left in 1986 for Quecec City. Worked for the military in BFC Valcar...Expand for more
tier for 5-6 years and odd jobs here and there afterwards and completely retire in 1980. Since than we live alongside of the St.Charles River with the view of uppertown and Chateau Frontenac. We love our city, mind you I miss speaking English alot. Here there are 15,000 English speaking people, but we have not mixed too much with the English Community as my wife speaks just a little English. We celebrated our 33 years wedding anniversary last July 8 th and unfortunately we have no children, but we have friends that have alot,. Ha ! Ha ! We do alot of Charity work and busy in Church Services. We do volontary work since 2005 for the Sister of Mother Teresa (Missionaries of Charity) . In 1985 Mother Teresa came to Québec City and I got to meet her. In 2005 I was in Rome and assisted her Beatification as well as well to the nomination of Mgr. Marc Ouellet who was nominated Cardinal during the same time at the Consitoire at the Vatican. I have myself benn to Bosnia i Herzegovina on piligrimage many many times to Medjugorje and have done and participated in Humanitarian Tasks. I have a hobby, I make rope and wooden bead rosaries for the Sisters of Mother Teresa for different missions around the world and our local Churches. I am a Chruch going person and so is my wife. We both travelled alot to Europe in the past when we were single, that now are travelling is limited to our Country and a few times in the States. We are both active physically we trained cardio, weights and swimming and enjoy the company of our two female cats Sofie and SiSi. We go to Shawingan every 3 weeks or so, as my mon is still living. She is 98 years of age and 7 months and living at Domaine Cascade on Hemlock Ave were I went to school would you imagine. I still see the old school fence, the Stunstrom's home is still there in front where St.Pat's School used to me in 1965. The road would need a pavement job honestly as it's full of pot holes. Ha ! Ha!. Alot of old memories come to my mind each time I past on this street. Well keep some for later. Take Care and God Bless, Robert "Tiny" Boyd
