Robert's Story
Dear Friends and Colleagues
As many of you know, I ran the Boston marathon (my first) this past April 15. An absolutely insane idea driven among other reasons by the South Boston Neighborhood House, one of our largest and most responsive local charities. For many of you that reached out in the short hours after the bombing with expression of support, concern and care, thank you. Thank you for your generosity and the expressions of concern for my family, our neighborhood families, the runners and for our whole community here in Boston. The run, the aches and pains pale in relation to what lies ahead for the families and friends who lost loved ones and with those who face a long term recovery. We pray for the healing.
For me, the minor frustration of falling off pace turned into a bit of grace when it prompted my family to delay their arrival at the finish line by 30 minutes, missing the incident by just that much. Some were not as fortunate including one of our very own South Boston Neighborhood House families. We are there to help. For the record, my race ended at Mile 24.

r away as Hong Kong. At the request of some of you, the donation site at crowdrise(dot)com where we are at /TeamSouthBstnNeighborhoodHouse/fundraiser/robertboyda. This will stay active a little longer. Thank you. The families in need in South Boston are all truly grateful.
As for family, my daughter Danielle stayed true to form leading the family through the bombing crisis with remarkable strength and decisiveness. She is returning to Africa in August to work in Botswana with the Princeton In Africa program helping teenagers cope with AIDS. (30+% of Botswana's population has AIDS). My son Eric is planning on a PG year (Grade 13 by our old standards) to allow himself some additional academic freedom while playing at least one extra year of hockey before trying to get a spot playing college hockey. Cathy is beginning to cope with empty nest realities filling time with cooking and piano playing. Yours truly continues to plod along (other than this running insanity) -- 15 years since we moved to Boston. More grey. A little crusty at times. And then there's Cody our 3 year old golden retriever and the notion that there is still unconditional affection somewhere in the world.
Kindest regards. Please know that if you are in Boston, you are my guest...
Bob
