You are invited to the ¿Surprise¿
Retirement Banquet and Track Reunion for
Mark O¿Leary and Ed Heffernan
When: Saturday, July 18th 2009 (4pm-9pm)
and/or
Sunday, July 19th at 10am
Where: American Legion in Toms River on Church Rd.

After over 30 years of exceptional dedication to the sport(s) of Track and Field (and Cross Country), Mark O¿Leary and Ed Heffernan are hanging up their stop-watches (and measuring tapes) for the last time. To celebrate their illustrious careers, we have decided, as a surprise to them, to organize a gathering amongst their former athletes and people that have been a part of their success in the sport. Since the task of contacting such a large group of people is particularly challenging, please pass this invitation onto others that may be interested.
Details (Please read because some changes have been made to the original invitation):
(1) Please RSVP by July 1, 2009, if you have not already done so, to either:

(2) If you would like to bring a guest, they can now join us for both days, but we are still very limited in space requirements and budget.
But feel free to bring anyone you would like for Sunday morning.
(3) General plan for Saturday, July 18th (4pm-9pm) at the American Legion:
(a) Semi-formal banquet w/ Introductions, Speeches, Gifts, Slide show, and buffet
(b) Cash bar but 3 or 4 kegs will be provided for free.
(c) Please arrive early because this is a surprise party.
(d) Carpooling would be best because parking is limited.
(We¿ve been asked to make sure everyone is aware that there is no drinking in front of building, only in the back.)
(4) General plan for Sunday, July 19th (10am) at Toms River South¿s Track:
(a) Unveiling of the sign that will recognize the success that both coaches had on Track and Field
(b) Events (enter one or more if interested):
100meter dash; 400meter dash; 800meter dash; 4X400meter relay (teams will be chosen at the meet and/or can be formed beforehand through friends); throwing events (if interest); jumping events (if interest)
(5) We are asking for a minimum of the following from each person:
$25 for meal and c...Expand for more

$5 or more for the gift and plaque to name the track after O¿Leary and Heffernan
$5 or more for a scholarship in their name which will be given to Cross Country and Track athletes who have the ¿passion and excitement for the sport that Heff and O¿Leary possess as coaches to continue pursuing the sport at the next level¿
($35 or more total) Either given at the banquet or mailed to*:

*We would appreciate check sent as soon as possible because costs upfront to fund this event will be sizeable. Also, anyone that cannot make it but would like to support the scholarship and/or gift, your donation will not go unnoticed.
A special Toms River South Track Reunion T-shirt will be given as a gift to you at the party.
(Additional support will go to the gift, plaque, and scholarship fund)
(6) We are putting together a slide show with newspaper clippings, pictures, videos, and other related materials that span the 35 years that Heff and O¿Leary coached. If you have anything that could contribute, please contact Pete Schultz (class of ¿96) at petediss (at) yahoo (dot) com and he will work something out to get your stuff put into the slide show. If you would rather just bring it to the banquet, we are going to have a table that has pictures, old booklets, and newspaper clippings that we will have on display. There will be stickers to put your name on your addition to the table so that it does not get misplaced.
(7) Please print this invitation out and put it somewhere that will remind you (ie refrigerator).
So please mark this date in your calendar, get a babysitter, book a flight ticket, or whatever it will take to make it to this event. This should be a great weekend and one last opportunity to see old Track Alumni and to see the two coaches who made our high school experience so special.
Again, this is a surprise, so please try to be here early or on time!

We have a Google spreadsheet that has all the names of past Cross Country and Track alumni but not all of the names have contact information (if you would like access to view this spreadsheet, just let us know). Any help in finding people to let them know about this party would really be appreciated.
