f Robert's favorite quotes is:""I hope you like birds. It's economical; it saves going to heaven" Emily Dickinson, U.S. poet". More about Robert:"I spent 41 years in education, published a series of articles and book chapters, and spent 5 years on the Board Of Directors of Phi Delta Kappa International (an association of professional educators) representing the southeast United States, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. I spent the last eight years of my career as an academic coach working one-on-one with teachers to help them deal with disabled readers in their classrooms. Now I'm retired, a reader of mystery novels, and an avid birder. I'm very active with the local Audubon Society and a regular field trip leader. My goal is to spend at least one day birding in all 50 states. I've visited 28 (just returned from Colorado) and am planning a new trip for the winter and/or the spring of 2018.

Fifty-six years ago, my sister Judy gave me my first baseball glove, a unique "six-finger" model that I used for half of my life. I thought then that Judy was the best sister in the entire world. I still have that glove,
A bad back has limited me to birding by car and/or short walks. Still, I'm trying to keep up with the Bird a Day challenge. Currently, I'm at 135 days in a row adding a new bird to the list. I got lucky in Cedar Key on W
Very cooperative Clapper Rail at Shell Mound yesterday. There were a few Frigatebirds around and about 35-40 Swallow-tailed Kites circling above SR 24 just west of the Wacasassa River.
One Golden Eagle took flight and circled above for 10 minutes or more. What a thrill!
What a gorgeous and regal bird. Many thanks to Jay Johnson for showing me this beauty.
There are three blogs up that I really haven't mentioned on Facebook. Two of them deal with my trip in May to the Grand Canyon and Bryce Canyon. A third part of that series is yet to come. But I just got back from an ele

Less than three weeks ago I was on the Nez Perce Reservation along the Clearwater River near Spalding, Idaho. The people there were friendly and eager to share their culture, their personal stories and their love of the la
