Robert's Story
Life
I have two grown daughters. Their mother and I divorced in 1996. Since then I've been married & divorced 3 more times, but no other children. Collecting ex-wives isn't a hobby that I would recommend.
Workplace
When I left active duty in 1995 I was an avionics specialist on the F-16 fighter. My first civilian job was as a mechanic working on surplus military vehicles. That's what my first career field was in the Air Force too. From there I went to work for Packard Bell doing technical support. While I was working for Packard Bell the Air Force called and asked me to come to work for them as a civilian. I became an aircraft electrician on the F-16 then. The depot repair facility for the F-16 is at Hill and that's where I worked. I did that for about 7 years then finally moved on to the ICBM program that had moved here from Texas. In 2005 I was again promoted and this time it was to a desk job. My official title is Equipment Specialist for C-5 Main Landing Gear. After 7 years of that I wanted to get back into an electronics related field so I changed to being an equipment specialist on portable weather stations, but only for 6 months. I was still in Utah and had been app...Expand for more
lying for a transfer to the southeast. In January 2013 another job offer came through from Georgia. After being in Utah for 22 years I packed up and relocated back to the southeast. Currently, I'm the equipment specialist for the turbine engine managemenst system on A-10 aircraft. That's 3 airframes, a nuclear program and deployable weather systems that I've been involved with and I still have another 10 years to go before I'm old enough to retire from this career. Transferring to Ft. Campbell would be ideal, but I'm not holding my breath for that transfer to come through.
Military
I went off to basic training 2 weeks after graduation. My first base was Sembach Air Base, Germany. I stayed there until 1989. That's when I was assigned to Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico. From there I went to Hill Air Force Base, Utah. I stayed at Hill for 2 years then went to Osan Air Base, Korea. From Osan I returned to Hill. That was only 10 years! That's when I left active duty and joined the Air Force Reserve at Hill. After 21 years of active duty and Reserve I finally retired on September 1, 2006. I'm still working for the Air Force in civil service, but I'm done wearing the uniform.
