Robert's Story
Livin the good life in Key West FL. Of course the photo was taken when I was still young and pretty. Hitting 64 now and it certainly aint pretty.
What I remember most about Arcata High was Mac, who taught theater, and Mrs. Stebbins who taught Art and Theater Arts, which I was very involved in (behind the scenes).
Used to drive an old purple Falcon and various other old cars/trucks, most of which would have a surfboard on top.
Worked at the Lemon Tree from its' beginning, remember having to fight with the City to keep it open. They thought we were possessed by the devils music (which we were, thank God)
Hung out with Ken Rotcheller(sp?) (Rotch), Peter Brant and his sister Suzy, father was a prof at HSU, Eric and brother Ro (who later became a glass artist) Mother was librarian at HSU, they had a warm and welcoming home that I have fond memories of. Eric and I drove down to SF (in my Austin Healy, my graduation present) for a peace march(on the sly) and we bought a matchbox and smoked my first joint (most likely oregano) under the base of Coit Tower. Roamed around North Beach, (discovered City Lights Book Store, life changing event). I don't recall if we ever got caught.
I wish I had a year book, I can't remember names, due to old age and all the drugs I have to take to be able to walk (spine is falling apart) I remember Patsy & Peggy Givens, who were always nice to me, and even though I didn't run wit...Expand for more
h the popular kids I was treated pretty good by most.
I met a soul mate and we were together 25 years before I lost him to AIDS. We met in the woods of southern Humboldt where I had retreated to after living through Height Ashbury (our commune was on Masonic two blocks up from Height, the "Villa Satori" (Amore per tutti - Love for everyone) our house was made up from all the stoners from the SF Ballet and a bunch of Technocrats and Musicians who believed in total theater, we produced "Happenings" in SF Opera House, Grace Cathedral (Totentanz (The Dance of Death) I got to play Jesus, full beard, hair down to my wazzo , The Oakland Museum of Modern Art, Golden Gate Park (the Summer of Love), The Ojai Jazz Festival, among the more prestigious .
I was also very politically active, and wound up agoraphobic which led me to retreat to the semi-wilderness of southern Humboldt. I had difficulty resolving the image I had of myself as "Mr. Cosmic Peace and Love", when I was so filled with rage that my brothers and sisters were being killed and asked to kill others for no apparent reason, except to make others rich, same thing goes for what we are doing to our environment. Thank God (Goddess) I have found the middle path, while not perfect, works well enough for me to have a pretty good life.
You can find me on Face book, in case you want to contact me with out paying money. Would love to hear from you!
