Robert's Story
Life
My life bio? Well, I can't believe its almost thirty years since graduation day! Its hard to record all that in a few lines, so I guess I'll just list some of the major stuff. Ok - I got into computers and programming eventually, so a quick apology to any former teachers that visit for not doing better in algebra! Programming computers takes lots of algebra. A simlar thing can be said for French class.
Learning a computer language is a lot like learning another, more human language. So its odd that my two most un-favorite subjects at school turned out to be important in one of my favorite passetimes! More specifically I got into computer game programming and almost got hired by a big company in Texas, but didn't want to move. So I'm working independantly now.
Also, I got more into martial arts even than I was back then. Found a genuine instructor (by luck!) in the martial side of Tai-Chi Chaun, from Taiwan, and spent about 6 years with him and a small class. Later took up karate for a few years at a regular school, then my tai-chi instructor, who had gone back to visit friends and study oriental medicine, returned and we had about another year or so of refresher instructions. I worked at several jobs which were curiously unrelated to the computer stuff - everything from washing dishes to working at department stores. 'Tis where I met my wife, Chrissy, right in front of the trash compactor! Really! She's pretty cool, most of the time. :) That was in '97, and I still chide her with "So THAT was what we were doing at the church!"
There is so much more, as there is in anyone's life. If anyone is reading from that era, about 1971-1976, feel free to drop me a line.
In closing, I will leave this little note, hoping in a sense to send a message back through time, so to speak:
If there's one thing different about my life today compared to back then, I'd have to say I'm not as distant as I was. Many of you likely remember me as a somewhat overtly-shy, or even snobby fellow. Rest assured, I never really was, but it may have appeared that way. I'm much more outgoing and even silly these days, and to my friends back then I was much the same. You remember me as "Bob", but you can call me Robby now. I apologize if I was misunderstood in character. Indeed, if someone today says: "He has the mind of a teenager.",
I say, "How can that be? I'm only ten years old!" :)
Not bad for 47, eh?
Thirty years later! My teachers were right: the time went by.
