Robert's Story
Life
Ten years ago, I never would have imagined myself where I am today, and I sometimes wonder how I got here. I'm living in Tokyo and serving out the last year of a three year tour of duty in Tokyo, Japan aboard the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk, flying a search and rescue helicopter for the Navy. I'd always been interested in the military and thought long and hard about whether I should serve a few years before starting college or vice versa. I wound up getting a degree in Political Science from UCLA after graduating from Livermore and then lived in Germany for a year afterwards, hoping to get a job with the State Department. When that didn't work out, I worked as an aide for Senator Feinstein during the Impeachment and went through Navy Officer Candidate School shortly afterward. ext two and a half years and I earned my wings about a week before the attacks on September 11, which saw me deployed to Japan where I've been serving ever since. Its been a busy tour here and I expect that things won't slow down much in the near future, but I'm looking forward to returning home after the next 12 months. As for what comes next, I can only wait and see.
School
I studied Political Science at UCLA from 1994-1998, where I developed an interest in politics and government and worked several internships with the Departments of State and Commerce.
Military
Entered Navy OCS in January of 2000. Graduated as an aviation candidate and went through flight school in Corpus Christi and Pensacola, earning my wings in August of 2001. Assigned to FDNF in Japan thru 2005 and serving aboard USS Kitty Hawk.
