Robert's Story
After graduation, I enrolled in the U.S. Army. I got all the way through until the day before my graduation. I woke up that morning and my calves were so swollen, I could not put my boots on, let alone march. I was transported to the hospital and I saw six doctors who could not find what was wrong so I was admitted. I had a visit by my drill sergeants, company commander, and the head colonel in charge of the hospital. He took one look and said blood clots, you gotta go home. It sucked.
After I got back I worked at US West Communications for 10 years. During this time, I started dating a Lincoln high alumni, Sheryl Verrier. We were married in 1997. In 1999, I...Expand for more
left my job there and started working at Comcast. I spent 17 years there before retiring.
Sheryl died in 2012 from Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis. That disease just destroyed her. I did everything to make her comfortable. The one medicine the doctor gave her cost $7300 a dose. Our insurance paid a nice chunk but I had to pay what was
left. I hope she knew that when she passed
Since retiring, I have had a couple of health scares. Surgery went wrong. 25 day coma and 78 days in a rehabilitation facility learning to walk again. Got an infection from there in my right foot. They did 11 surgeries in 11 months but they ended up taking my right pinky toe.
