Robb's Story
At work, I spend my time designing training courses and coaching other corporate trainers.
Before and after work, I'm almost always on the moto' taking the long way home at a pretty good clip.
My [motorcycling] story starts with sneaking away to get my license after working at the Crab Shack (James River Pier) for Ms. Davis (one of our favorite English teachers) during the summer of 1983, as I remember it. I believe it was her husband who was selling a little Honda Hawk automatic. I chickened out of the purchase (mom would have thrown me out, no doubt), but caught the bug that very day.
I bought my first bike in 1992 (Honda V45 Magna)while taking the Motorcycle Safety Course and commuting to work 35 mi. one way near Buffalo, NY.
I switched to my first of two Honda ST1100s in 1998 buying its replacement in 2002. See...Expand for more
ms I've always been commuting 35 to 50 miles to work (one way), until a job layoff in 2003. My commute then climbed to 110 miles one way and the ST1100 justified itself as a year round ride, in short order.
A year and a half later I moved to OH with the same company to rid myself of the commute, I traded the ST in for something sportier that I had not previously considered owning but had to have, the moment I laid eyes on it.
While I cannot imagine riding 13 hours on my Hayabusa like I did six times from Connecticut to OH (and back), what the 'Busa lacks in comfort, it more than makes up for in speed and let's say, "curb appeal."
What a rush! What a ride! Similar to what I recommend to the beginner riders I coach as an MSF instructor: I've "only looked back to check my blind spot."
The rest is accelerative history.
