Robert's Story
Life
After High School I traveled for a year, went to Mount Royal College (MRC) and studied Environmental Technology and ended up working for the Alberta Government. After about 3 years I decided to go to University.
I ended up graduating from the U Of Victoria and I found a job there and never went back to Alberta.
In 1990 I decided to travel through Asia and down to Australia. For one reason or another I decided to start in Japan. After 1 week I found a part time job writing a report for a small company in Tokyo. They promised me a 3 day contract. Next thing I knew I was working for an engineering company in Yokohama (south of Tokyo). I was able to spend the next 9 years spending my holidays traveling around Asia (Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Mainland China, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos), Europe (UK), and the USA.
After having too much fun I finally slowed down. I married a nurse and her name is Hiroko. In September 2000 I my job at the engineering company became redundant. It was a wonderful opportunity for me and I jumped for joy! My finish date was 31st Oct. 31 2000, which was 9 years and 1 month after I was given a 3 day contract! On 01 Nov. 2000 Hiroko and I were off to Oz and NZ.
I joined a British Consulting firm upon returning from the 2 months in OZ and NZ. I had a wonderful opportunity to work for Intel Corp. and British Telecom as a cost consultant.

Hiroko and I had decided to move to Calgary when my contract was to expire (October 2002). However, a strange event in Tokyo in January of this year has changed my life again.
While drinking Tequila in a Mexican Bar, in an old district of Tokyo one of my clients offered me a job in Taiwan. I laughed and said no. Well my friend just would not take no for an answer. After some negotiations we came to an agreement that I would go to Taiwan for 4 years and work on a new project. The project is building a Bullet Train using the latest Japanese rail technology.
The project is almost over after 4 years and instead of heading back to Calgary I am heading back to Japan. I will take the Managers position for the British Conslulting firm in Tokyo. Hiroko and I now have 3 dogs and look forward to the return to Japan. We rented a house on the ocean and there is a marina right next door. The Google Earth Contacts are (35 deg 17' 02.72" North : 139 deg 34' 07.74" East) for the new place. If anyone is interested in Japan 2006 is the time to travel as accomodation is the most expensive part of travel in Japan.
My new job will allow me to do what I like the best, travel. My office covers all of SE Asia, except for China and Hong Kong. I also get to cover the middle east for Japanese based contractors. A few trips to Dubai will be exciting. Not too keen on Iraq just now but in the future it would be welcomed.
