If I had to define âhitting rock bottomâ as something tangible, it would be when what I just lost or am about to lose suddenly becomes more important than my next hit. My family, my freedom and my life were all on the line. I had lost everything else. And it was time to make some changes. If I kept going they way I was going, I would be dead.
Today, I have a solution. I have hope. I have tools that have helped me learn how to manage lifeâs obstacles and even how to celebrate lifeâs victories without getting loaded. Working one step at a time, I have been able to piece my life back together and ev...Expand for more
en to help others out of their situations.
Itâs not always easy. But, let me tell you, the worst days in sobriety are far better than my best days using drugs. Iâve learned to be more accountable for my actions, to be responsible for myself and others and to not be afraid of who I am. Iâve learned to embrace my past and learn from it so that I can teach others how to overcome their addictions.
My entire adult life was spent struggling through under the influence of drugs and alcohol. I donât have to live that way anymore. That shame and guilt that I suffered from is gone. That heartache and loneliness is gone. Today I can be the son, brother, friend or lover that I need to be. Today I can be the man I need to be. I have so much gratitude and appreciation for my life today.
And, I have my family, my freedom and my life back. I have friends that I love and that love me. I have faith in a higher power that will help me through. And I can take comfort in the fact that I donât have to struggle through this world alone anymore.
I used to be afraid of getting sober. Because then people might see me for who I really am and I might see the world as it really is. What I found in getting sober are beautiful people and a beautiful world. I want to live life more now than ever before. And I want to share a message of hope, because I know how dark and lonely the disease of addiction is. Iâm here to tell you, there is hope. There is a way out.".
