Robert's Story

MY LIFE SINCE HS IN THREE PARAGRAPHS: UPDATE POSTED 4/9/10 - LAST PARAG. In high school I did not want to get bored with life and job, so I decided it would be a good idea to change careers at least once in my work life. Without trying, that is exactly what has happened -- although it occurred more times than I had expected without a plan that I had hoped to have in place. After starting my first career out of HS in banking I decided I wanted to work outdoors, so I quit that job and enrolled at Vincennes University for an AS degree, first in Forestry, then transferring to Civil Engineering and Geology, which led to a short surveying career. With this background, a combination of business and engineering, it led to a career in utility management. Life happens and the company eventually merged and I was the first one they set free. This led another career change and back to college. This time I studied business (completing BS and MS degrees) while working for my University as an administrator - where I work today.* Now a days, many of our classmates are making retirement plans - not me. Maybe I take too many vitamins, but I am ready to start yet another career. I have long held an interest in runni...Expand for more
ng my own business. I have a strong entrepreneurial spirit and have made my employers $ millions. It seems logical to consider it is time for that kind of success to stay closer to home. I have many interests, but the one area that I have the most interest, especially considering recent environment and energy events, is in renewable resources, which is a field I was employed in (SIGECO, '80-'98) and have a continued passion. If anyone is interested, lets talk - I am at robertg97 at ya - hoo . Another life event is my former marriage (for 12 years) to "Peach" Trotter (Reitz '74) and we had a daughter, Emily, (Reitz '98 - first-chair clarinet in Band and Orchestra) who recently made me a grandfather. Now I have come full-circle and am once again single. Say, do you know anyone? I think referrals are the best way to meet someone, but a blind date could be interesting too. Wow, I just covered my entire life in three paragraphs. I must have left out a few details. If you want to know more, lets get together sometime and talk. *A curve-ball thrown my way as I learned this week that my contract will not be renewed, so I am once again career shopping. What shall I become this time on my new adventure?
