Robert's Story

Life after Robinson went kind of like an Indiana Jones saga of high adventure, danger, romance, and a LOT of fun. After cutting out midway through my senior year, leaving home to go ski-bumming at Arapahoe Basin, I returned home, then went to California the next year, 1969, backpacking through the Sierra Nevada Mountains, searching for peace. I'd bought a Bible and took it with me, alone, into the depths of the wilderness, and there I found Christ. I returned home after many adventures, went to Woodstock with Bob Danaher and Joe Arcivito, and entered St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield. There I had a call from God to leave - that I was to hold a woman's hand all my life - and so I did, still traveling and searching for my destiny. I joined my sister for a year then on Islesboro, an island off the coast of Maine, and there was inspired to enter college. In 1971 I was off to Mt. St. Mary's College, Emmitsburg, MD, and fell in love with learning. I graduated in 1974 with honors and entered Boston College graduate studies in pursuit of degrees in Medieval History. But the summer before I entered, I'd met the lady I was going to marry and proposed to her 5 weeks later. I left graduate school to find a career that would enable me to marry her, joining the pharmaceutical industry to do so! I've been in the healthcare field ever since, leaving corporate to start my own healthcare communications firm. I founded 3 healthcare journals, am planning the launch of at least one more journal, and continue to write poetry and miss academia and history and being able to teach. But I'm thrilled beyond measure at marrying the most beautiful, brilliant, and virtuous young maiden I've ever seen. We're married 41 years now, raised our 8 children, and have 10 grandchildren and another on the way now - who'd have thought I'd be a patriarch? I certainly didn't look like one back at Woodstock, a long-haired flower child (no drugs, just loving the music). I miss all you guys and our p...Expand for more
rofs - especially Sunny Joe, may God bless him - and I'd love to have us get together for a 50th anniversary class reunion next year if possible. I live in New Jersey, having followed the pharmaceutical industry there. I'll always miss Connecticut. I love my God, the lady He sent me and the children He gave us, and the land we live in. I have much to do in life and intend to make things happen in times to come. I'm passionate about C. S. Lewis, Irish history and mythology, and historical synthesis literature like Charles Norris Cochrane's astounding 1946 classic, "Christianity and Classical Culture." I read each of my children "The Hobbit," "The Lord of the Rings," and C. S. Lewis's "Chronicles of Narnia." Meanwhile, my wife continued to play classical music and taught the children music and art, resulting in several marvelous musicians, artists, and writers in our brood (a lawyer and a medical journal publisher, too). My professional career centered around synthesizing the governing dynamics of healthcare with an eye to elevating healthcare quality and value; I do consulting in addition to founding journals. I plan to write a book and publish my poetry. After suffering a hit-and-run accident that forced me out of work for awhile, I had to give up water skiing and alpine skiing, but not snorkeling and spear fishing, which I taught my kids. They're beautiful girls and handsome lads, thanks to that vision I married - my picture with her was taken on our 40th anniversary a year ago. Life is very good, if full of ups and downs caused by being independent and non-corporate, but always my faithful lady, my guardian angel, and now my children are beside me taking care of me whenever I get into trouble (yup, still do that - always stepping out of line, then comes a rescue). Life's a grand adventure, and I intend to follow it passionately with my lady, and I want to be there for my children and their children as they grow. y dear wife and I love them all so deeply.
