Robert's Story
After Academy, GMI (very briefly), then 3 years at U of M in Mechanical Engineering, then to Lawrence Tech where I received both a Bachelor of Science and Masters in Architecture (didn't everyone do the 9 year college plan?). For those of you who are wondering...no I did not drink in College either (cut me some slack...I didn't know what I was missing!)
My first job was as a Staff Architect at Albert Kahn in Detroit. I left there to be a Senior Project Manager at a large Detroit Construction Company. In 2002, I started my own Architecture Firm (I thought the economy was on the verge of turning around). In late 2005, I merged my Firm with a large Engineering Firm. We are over 80 employees and steadily growing (which you won't hear from many A/E Firms right now). We recently bought a mid-sized Architecture firm in Wyandotte.
I met my wife, Lynn, (yes...odd coinc...Expand for more
idence) at Lawrence Tech and we have been married for almost 19 years. She's a Senior Vice President with a large Paris based Financial Firm (fortunately not Societe Generale!). We have a 12 year old son (Carter) and 11 year old daughter (Sheridan). Fortunately, they are very good kids.
I am still pretty much type A (maybe A minus...then again maybe A plus with the kids!) but I have worked pretty hard on toning it down (the cocktails certainly help). Most people still think I'm pretty intense, though.
That's about it. Life's good...no complaints. We've both worked pretty hard to get where we are. Fortunately, we are also able to relax and do things we want, like travel, golf, whatever.
Curious how people are doing.
Update....kids now 16 and 17. I don't like having two kids that drive. If they were as boring as I was at that age, no problem. No such luck!
