WORK I worked as treaty negotiator for Ucluelet FN, and Tekkie for Resource OFfice for Ditidaht FN from 2003-2007. Switched to administrator for Ditidaht (Nitinaht Lake) where I'm from in 2007. Now I am negotiating treaty again. I honestly don't care how friends remember me, my guess is most won't. Education: 3 Degrees. BA, MA, LLB Home: Moved from Vancouver and bought a house in Nanaimo in 2002 because most employment prospects were on the Island. I worked in a law office where they advised me that the houses were dirt cheap and purchasing was the way to go. I always wanted to be hard working and knowledgeable when I grew up. My family and friends generally agreed. I'm kind of frank speaking, and this puts some people off, but I try to be kind and generous, that's how I hope old friends remember me. Those whom I help will anyway. I relax by carving, building things, driving or boating, being a little daring. The wildest thing (at least that's printable) I ever did in school was skip class and rent a boat all day. Closely followed by running for class president and losing by one vote (my two best buddies were absent, so if they were there, I would have had my first political position.). These are the "mentionable" polite things. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have, alertness, perserverence, an air of authority and a sense of humour to deal with the day to day. My hero is my late father. My inspiration for work comes from old fishermen like him who stare down every imaginable adversity and still never quit, and an old friend (whom I met on this site) who taught me not to feel guilty for what I have attained and accumulated over the years. Not worrying really took some of the weariness out of my bones, and allowed me to thrive, at least relatively speaking. I am inspired also by a women I boarded with. This woman worked her small farm on her own, on her property, and did this well into her 80's, (rotor-tilling, weeding etc), was awake hours before anyone else, and left the complaining to other people. Lived in Vancouver for 11 years. Moved to Nanaimo, because I accepted a job in a law firm, and houses were cheeper to buy. I never thought I'd go as far as I did. But you never want to be completely content either. There is still much to be done. The key is enthusiasm. You can accomplish lots without getting tired or bored. I keep seeing old teachers from lake Cowichan (Grade 10), and from Port Alberni (Grade 4). This is ironic because they were my favorite teachers. They both taught me that it doesn't matter if you take a different route to get to an answer as long as you get there. It's amazing how important that is and how many people don't get it.
