Robert King:  

Life I spent a hitch with the US Air Force at Lowry AFB in Colorado, where I taught school (imagine that) on a tactical missile system (TM-76A & B). After the airforce, I went back to school and obtained a degree in electrical engineerig from Utah State University. I worked for the Boeing Company for 30 years on various commercial and military programs. I retired in 1995 and moved to Texas in 1997 to play with the grandkids and watch them growup. Texas gave us a warm welcome -- the second hottest summer on record. 2009 -- Well we are still here and are involved with the Senior Center, the Heritage Association, the Heritage Museum, & have dabbled in support roles for local politics. The grandkids are growing up way to fast, one in high school & the other starting middle school. Check out facebook to see some of my current activities. 2010 -- Still involved with all of the above. Have added a new hobby, playing on the railroad with my new (old) motor car and have gotten back to taking out the 1954 Mercury for old car club functions. We belong to 2 of them; N Texas Region AACA and the Morning Mainiacs. I still have 2 1946 trucks in restoration, they may never get done. 2010 end of year: So far I have put about 500+ miles on the RR in Texas and neighboring states. I have also signed up to "ride" the Alaska RR in 2011. That will be an adventure, a 4000 mile drive to Alaska, then 950+ miles on the RR, a ferry trip back to Seattle, and then a 2500 mile road trip home. 2011 -- The first part of the year was filled with volunteer activities at our local Heritage Center, Museum & various City activites. We were active in the RR and car clubs and preparing for the Alaska adeventure. We completed the Alaska RR journey in September. It was a marvelous trip overall. We traveled 13,000 miles with 1,000 on the Alaska RR. Visiting 11 States & 3 Canadian Provences with travel by car/truck, airplane, ferry, RR, and by foot. We spent a week in December at Universal Studios in Orlando visiting the Harry Potter theme park with our oldest daughter (major Potter fan) and 2 grandkids. Betty Jo & I rented electric scooters for 3 days, best way to get around, plus you get special treatment at most venues with special lines and seating. The grandkids quickly caught on and "we are helping Grandma and Grandpa" so they also bypassed some of the long ...Expand for more
