Robert (Kirk)'s Story
Life
Wow! what a crazy ride!
For those who'd like to know (or have nothing better to do, here's my story:
After graduating from Rockledge High (Rockledge, FL) in '77, I joined the Army and was stationed in Germany (D 2/1). After serving 3 years, I came home and everything had changed. Nothing was as I had left it and I wasn't sure of where to go from here. I was briefly married from which my son, John, was born. After a great deal of wandering, comtemplation, and generally screwing up a lot, I was saved (if you don't know what this is, write me right away!) in 1984. Prior to this, I was playing bass guitar in local club bands and doing my level best to die early. After my conversion, I left the music scene briefly but soon resumed playing music as well as my wayward ways. During this time I also enrolled in college and I pursued a renewed relationship with Jesus Christ shortly before graduating from the University of Central Florida with a teaching degree. During this time I remarried but still had not perfected the art of selflessness and this marriage also ended. Many years passed, some with great pain and hardship but in due season, God blessed me greatly.
My wife Maria and I were married on October 23, 1999 and I've never known someone as sweet, wonderful, or as supportive. She's also very easy on the eyes! Maria works as an RN at Wuesthoff Hospital and has 3 boys (all grown now) from a previous marriage. She's the apple of my eye.
I was once a guitarist with The Saintz (17 years worth), a classic rock style Christian Band. The band had Cocoa High alumni Greg Geiger and John Simpson (class of '77) and RHS alumnus Mark Harden (class of '80 - go Raiders). Our band put a Christmas cd out (2005) entitled "The Gift", and true to its name, it is available free of charge to anyone who asks. You can get a listen at the church's website as well as see pics of the band. Just do a search for Club Zion in Cocoa Beach and you'll find us. We still play out if we can get everyone together!
Maria & I attend Calvary...Expand for more
Chapel of Merritt Island and you can usually find us there on any given Sunday (8:30 service). We love the depth of Bible study our pastor, Malcolm Wild divides from the pulpit. The people are great as well (love to you Roy Coy)!
By day, I work as a teacher at a school board run alternative center for high risk teens here in Rockledge. At night (Thursday's), I teach theology at Life Christian University. The rest of the time I'm just the lucky guy married to Maria, the lucky Dad to John, Kenny, Jonny, & Wesley, (and Beau - the wonder dog), and the lucky Grandpa to Trey and Christian.
People change over time. Football players get fat & hippies become bald. You lose hair where you want it & grow hair in places you never dreamed of. I'm in my 50's now (early, young 50's) & can't believe I got here. I should have died in my recklessness. This world has a way of emptying one over time. The old things I once esteemed, I now view as folly. The things I once thought I could never live without were, in some instances, the very things that crippled my life. Through all of all the necessary changes and growing that have come, some even coming through the seemingly unendurable fires of trials I desperately wanted to fast-forward through, I've come to know the living God through Jesus Christ, and He is always the same. He is ever faithful to us and His promises are as sure as the east-rising sun. God promises to give life and give it more abundantly. If you, like me, have drunk from the wells of this world only to be left with more thirst unquenched, thirsting even more for love and significance, Jesus told the Samaritan woman, "Whoever drinks of this water (the things which this temporal world esteems) will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life." (John 4:13-14). If you're ready to drink, contact me. Better yet, contact Him.
God bless you,
Robert "Kirk" Jensen
