Robert's Story
Life
I lived on East 32nd Street, between Glenwood and Farragut Road in my early years. Went to PS 89, Huddie Jr. High, and Midwood. When I married Betty Gennuso in 1965 we lived in an apartment on East 29th Street for two years and then bought a house in the Midwood Park section of Brooklyn. In 1976 we moved to Bellmore, Long Island where we still are. Betty and I have three children, two are married, (Jim & Lori) one, Rich, still lives at home with us. If you remember me from school, (Hudde or Midwood) work, (B&B, DMB&B or D'Arcy) or the National Guard (42nd Rainbow Division, the Armory at Bedford & Atlantic Avenues) drop me an e-mail, I would love to hear from some of my old friends, thanks old buddies, and stay well, Bob Knecht
School
Hello school buddies, I sure spent some wonderful times in PS 89, Andries Huddie and Midwood High School. From my Huddie days, I would love to hear from four of my very close friends from those days: John Pike, Tony Puglisi, William Ferrara and June Allison. If any of you guys are out there, please send me an e-mail, it would be great to hear from you. I'll get back to you, you can count on that. I used to work in the candy store on Glenwood Road off Nostrand, right next to the Drug Store and "Jimmy's" Grocery store. If anyone remembers me from those "Good Old Days," in Good Old Brooklyn, please drop me a line, stay well, Bob Knecht.
College
I went to College at night for 6 years between 1960 and 1965. Took Communications, Advertising, Layout and Design,Typography, Business and Management. Also went to New York Employment and Printing school and SVA to learn Layout and the history of Type and Printing, which I used throughout my career in advertising. I was a Type Director and later on a Studio Manager at Benton & Bowles in New York City from 1960 until I retired in 1999, it was a great place to work and...Expand for more
I made many friends there. Have a good day everyone, stay well, and God Bless, Bob Knecht
Workplace
I started to work at Benton & Bowles in June,1960 at 666 Fifth Avenue. Later on, I moved with B&B to 909 Third Avenue and then on to 1675 Broadway. I was the Type Director and later on became the Mac Studio Manager. The 60's, 70's and even the 80's were great years to work for B&B, it was a terrific company to work for. Some of the very best years were when Al Hampel was the Creative Director, he hired some of the best Art Directors that that company ever had. Things started to change in the late 80's and by the time I retired in 1999 it was a completely different company. (Had a lot less heart). Just the same, my years at B&B, DMB&B and D'Arcy were wonderful. I made many good friends over the years there and had a wonderful career that I'll never forget. Any of you who remember me, drop me an e-mail, I'll get back to you. Stay well, Bob Knecht
Military
I joined the Army National Guard in Oct. 1959 with my friend Jackie Gruber. We both lived on East 32nd Street in Brooklyn. We took our Basic and Advanced Infantry Training at Fort Dix, in the 2nd Training Regiment. Our Field First was Sergeant Tucker (anybody remember him?) Our CO was Lt. James S. Buddo Jr. Back at the Armory I was in Combat Support Company, 1st Battle Group, 106 Infantry (Rainbow Div.). Richard Gallozzi was one of my best friends then, we did everything together and were in the same squard. We both enjoyed our time in the Army and were discharged as Sergeant E-5's in 1965. Made many good friends in the Military. It was a worthwhile, rewarding experience that I would recommend to everyone. If any of my old friends from the Army are out there, please drop me an e-mail, I would love to hear from you, and I'll get back to you for sure. Stay well and God Bless,
Sergeant Bob Knecht
