Robert's Story
Life
After H.S. graduation, I went to the U.S. Navy School of Music(near Wash,D.C.) Then,on to thirty mos. of sea duty (E.Coast-Norfolk, Va.) Assigned to COMBATCRULANT BAND.Made three trips abroad on the Missouri,the Northampton and the Iowa. Went all over N. Europe, Br. Isles, and the "Med". Made two stops in Guantanamo,Cuba. Back to Great Lakes and Honorably discharged. Back to G.C. and married Donna Hawks. Moved to Urbana where Donna finished her degree. Moved to Villa Grove (her first teaching job) I began commuting to U.of I. for two degrees:B.S. in Music Ed. and M.A. in Counseling & Guidance. Donna was music teacher in VG (and privately) until her death (breast cancer) in l986. We had two lovely daughters.(They now live in Texas and Wash.state!) After a busy life which included church(Choir directors/,members)Dance band gigs for me, some acting in community theater -and a club in Champaign,making a television commercial, I ran the gamut of grade school teacher, bldg. principal and finally H,S. ocal TV by taping H.S. games, adding commercials and airing this for the locals. Then in 1993,after 32 years, I decided I was ready to retire! Now, a man of leisure. Even though I regard myself to be pretty "low tech", am trying to find my way around this computer! Oh yes, one of my hobbies is poetry:
I still become excited when
A pretty girl walks by.
Oh, my, I get excited, but
I don't remember why!

Workplace
My job, over the thirty years included: Music teacher, grade
school and high school teacher,building and Jr. High Principal and Guidance Director. To enable me to afford to stay in teaching, I had a number of "outside jobs" running a dance band, selling things (real estate, insurance, stocks, etc.) Several construction jobs, and was, for eleven years, the Ass't. Test Administrator for State Certification Tests for Teachers. I also, taught trumpet and voice lessons privately, was a Choir Director and Soloist in a church choir. Also did some acting in Community Theater, at a club in Champaign, and made one TV commercial....Outside of that, I didn't do much!
