Robert's Story
Life
My biggest accomplishment in life is finding the perfect partner in my wife, and together raising two great kids. Beyond that, I have been more successful than I ever anticipated in my chosen profession, veterinary medicine. As a youngster, one of my ambitions was to end up in retirement as a cattle rancher, and I have been fortunate enough to acquire and develop several ranches. The missing part at this point is being able to do that fulltime. I still enjoy being a horse doctor too much, and that is a vocation that pulls heavily on my available time. The best I can do is just disappear for a few days at a time and go be a cowboy.
For someone that had barely ever been out of Louisiana by the time I left Natchitoches for vet school at LSU, I had no idea that I would end up traveling to as many places as I have. Being a horse surgeon has taken me literally all ...Expand for more
over the world, and I have thoroughly enjoyed that part. Traveling to so many places has really been an eyeopener for me, and has strengthened my appreciation for being fortunate enough to be born an American.
One of the questions was have I changed much? I guess we all do somewhat; I am totally grey headed, although I still retain most of my hair. I am a little heavier than I ought to be I suppose, but I still feel good and am physically still very active. My son, who is in high school, hauls hay in the summers to make some money, and when he started last year I went out with he and his buddies at first to help get them started, and to my surprise I am still able to work them into the ground. So I guess I am in better shape than I thought. I don't think my personality has changed much, though, other than I must be a little more confident in myself than I once was.
