Robert's Story

Life Went in the US Air Force in 1977, stationed in Germany, Spain, Portugal, Dover DE, Clovis NM, Las Vegas NV, Biloxi MS, and Jacksonvile AR. I served 24 years doing different things, C-130 aircraft maintenance, instructor, courier, and finally financial analysis. I then retired and now working USAF Civil Service in Ohio after coming here from Portugal in 2008. Married to Donna since 1985, two boys, Chris 15 and Jeffrey 18, and a spoiled rotten cat. Life is good, occasionally get back to Waco, usually for events, unfotunately lately funerals. We really like living overseas, very safe environment for kids and we enjoy vacationing in mainland Europe and seeing all the sights, so much history, so little time. Military US Air Force 24 years active duty, retired and now USAF Civil Service, enjoyed the life and I like doing financial analysis and it pays well. I like the fact that I went in the military, but always regret not graduating from Connally, was too much in a hurry to get on with life, should have listened to Mom when she said your whole life is ahead of you, enjoy going to school and not having to work. I try to tell my kids the same thing, that they have their whole life ahead of them, don't rush it, it will happen soon enough. I have t...Expand for more
ried to be a better parent (not that my parents were bad), making sure the boys know I love them, did not hear that around my house growing up although I knew they loved us, just nice to hear it every once and a while. I remember the first time I can recall my Dad saying that to me, I was 17 and in basic training, just struck me as odd at the time as I had never heard it before then. I don't want my boys to be able to recall when they first heard that they are loved, I want them to recall always hearing it and always knowing it. I think that we should grow with each generation, try to be better individuals and citizens, and to be successful and better educated. It really pleases me that my oldest is going to college this year on an Army ROTC scholarship to get his bachelors and to be a nurse in the Army, he has so much potential and ambition Now to the task of motivating my youngest to reach his full potential, he also has so much to offer. Donna and I were really lucky they turned out so well, we really worried about the impact of us both working fulltime, we were blessed with having the help of some very good individuals who cared for our boys as if they were their own and helped instill within them outstanding values and morals. Life is good.
