Robert's Story
How do you catch up on a half a century of history in a few words. Then I've never been accused as a man of few words. So here goes:
Attended grammar and Jr High in Casper, WY then moved in December 1959 to Aurora and attended 8th and 1/2 of 9th before moving to Arvada, Co. I played sophomore and junior football but at 130 lbs I was a doormat. I worked at the Federal Theater with good friend Sharon Wertz, from Denver North HS. In the first semester 1963 I had to leave home. Tried to stay in school but working 3 jobs and attending school just about killed me. So I quit school and joined the Navy. I did 8 years then went to the University of Utah on the GI Bill and earned a BS in Business, class of 1975. Rejoined the Navy and was commissioned as an officer. I did another 19 years and retired as a Commander in 1994. I moved to Corpus Christi and owned a retail business for 8 years, sold it and then went into real estate and real estate inspection. I have lived all over California, Virginia, Florida, Utah, Rhode Island and Texas. Have traveled all around the world and even now we are continuing to travel to far off places. I feel I am in a race against time to do as much as possible before old age or poor health catches up to me.
I have two children and three grand kids: Chelsea graduated from Texas A&M, Corpus Christi 2017 in mech engineering, Ethan, Graduated in engineering from Ole Miss in 2018 and got a commissi...Expand for more
on as a 2nd LT in the Army reserves in Texas. MY youngest grand child: 13 year old Teagan McCarthy is in her 7th year of school. My 2 sisters still live in the Aurora area. I get up there once in a while to visit. My wife of 39 years passed away in 2008 due to a very long illness. I met and married a really sharp Texas gal in 2009. I am retired now and live near Austin, TX and for the life of me I can not identify a snow shovel.
I have been known to frequent a near by western honky tonk for a little 2 stepping. I have 3 low maintenance cats who all seem to want to sit or lay on me when ever I sit down. Love these little guys.
In Jr high my friends in Casper were Dale Ford, Marty Aleman and many others. At Arvada HS my buddies were (not a complete list) Mike Everard, Larry Eiseman, Diana Mohlman, Sue Livingston, Bruce Palmer and Russ Mckenzie. I remember fondly Saturday nights at Standley Lake and dragging the Scotchman on Federal Blvd.
Had shoulder surgery August 2014 and missed my 50th HS reunion. Lot of people I will not be able to reconnect with until next reunion. Stay alive everybody!
This past couple of years my younger brother passed away then my mom and a few weeks later my older sister Pat who lived in Casper. Life is a gift and I try to live each day fully. To that end we just got back from a 10 day Alaska cruise. You all need to do that. It’s amazing.
Would love to hear from former classmates.
