Robert's Story
Life
After leaving Groveton in '76; I got married in Jan/77 and became a father in July/77 to my 1st daughter 'Jaclyn'; my son 'Dallas' in Jan/82; and 2nd daughter 'Kathryn' in Dec/85. I'm blessed with 3 great healthy kids! Jaclyn is a wonderful single mom to 8 y.o. 'Jaden'; my one grandson! She is expecting a baby girl on April 21, 2009. Dallas lives in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and works for Kohls. He's a great photographer and hopes to make it a career eventually.
Kathryn works in sales at a vacation resort and is quite successful.
I worked mainly in the building/construction field. From selling building materials to installing and remodeling housing. When the construction boom died in '81, I went to work for UPS. This was going to be my career until retirement! But life sometimes has a plan of it's own.
In July/85, I was paralyzed from a broken neck caused while diving into a pool. For the past 22 years, living as a Quadriplegic has had its share of 'bumps'; but I refuse to let it control my life. It makes me have to do some physical things differently than others, but I am still my children's Dad, I work very hard, and probably more optomistic than most people you will ever meet! So for 23 years now, I've been a Dad to three great kids and enjoying life the best I can everyday! And for every morning the Lord let's me wake up... I'm going to make it a fantastic day!
Oh yes, that career at UPS? Read my "Workplace" page and checkout what I'm doing now!

ted in high school, but let go of; knows who she is and reminded me recently of the mistake I made back then. And she's so right! I'm not saying who, because that's between her & I, and she is an absolutely beautiful person.
Mr. LaPorte (Shop) was one of the many cool teachers we had at GHS. So was the late Mr. Moss at Bryant I.S. Does anyone remember the sailboat we built in Mr. Moss's class? If you helped work on it and would like to know what happened to it after completion, email me and I'll tell you!
College
In November 1986, I enrolled in the Accounting/Business Education courses at Woodrow Wilson Rehab Center down near Staunton, Virginia and graduated in Dec., '87 with an Associates Degree. I planned then to continue further but my life went a different path!
Workplace
After my injury in 1985, I spent the next 12 years learning to live with my disability, not working at all. I started teaching myself how to use a computer, and did the accounting at church for a few years. In July of 1998, I moved into my 1st accessible apartment living by myself. The builders of the apartments and myself formed a non-profit company called H.O.M.E. Inc., in August 1998. I was a Director first, Treasurer for a year, and now in my 8th year as the President/CEO, and Executive Director. We build accessible, affordable housing for people with disabilities. We own and manage them as Rental Properties. If you would like to learn more about our company; email me. Our website is; homeinc.us
