Robert's Story
Life
I left McCormick in early 1944 I think.I was half way through the 10th grade. My cousin Billy Ray Medley and I rode the bus from Tulot. He quit school about the same time.He still lives at Tulot. He went in the Army in 1951 and was in the 7th Division,32d Infantry Regiment. He was a Platoon SGT. though a draftee. He was wounded leading his PLT. in an attack.I was in Korea at the same time with "C" CO. 7th Marine RGT. 1st Marine Division.
I had gone into the Army in 1945 at 16 years of age. At Jump School in 1946 at FT.Benning I took and passed a GED test. The U.of Arkansas accepted it for Admission in 1949.When the Korean Police Action looked like it would last a while I decided to join the Marines in September 1950.I came back to U of A in 1952 and left again in 1953 for two more years in the Marines.I enlisted for Sea Duty.I had been stationed in Japan with the 11th Airborne Division for two years, then in Korea.I wanted to see Europe. Then back to Fayetteville and finally graduated 26 January 1957.
I was a shy boy who seldom spoke unless spoken to.I remember a boy in my class named Parrish. An older boy,n...Expand for more
ot a class mate, named Pete Moss.Gene Allen was a litle older.I met him again in 1949 at the U of A.
I fled Arkansas in 1965.If you are reading this you probably remember white Southerners were classed as second class citizens and I didn't want to raise my family in that atmosphere.I have lived in Washington State nearly 40 years and have been pleased with the choice I've made.Especially on some of those humid June days when I am back for the Medley Reunion.
8/18/05;Clem Jones put me in touch Pete Moss(Nelson Pennington).I learned from Pete that Gene Allen had passed away in New York. Now Pete is gone.Pete was older than me, but I remember him as a good looking, broad shouldered, blonde teenager. He had a younger redhaired sister. He told me a little about his service in the Infantry in the Pacific Theater in WWII.If you can share something to fill the 60 year gap in my acquaintance with these classmates,or others,it will be appreciated.Put my full name into your search to see a remnant of a web site I had in 2000.Robert Tilden Medley.I actually got over 13,000 votes in that Democrat Primary for the US Senate.
