Robert's Story

Life: Born in Corvallis, Oregon. Grew up mostly in Glenshaw, Pennsylvania attending grade school, junior high and high schools there. Attended Oregon State University living with my grandparents the first year and then joining Pi Kappa Alpha. Met my wife to be, Glenda Ebert in a canoeing class. We were married in 1965 shortly after graduation from OSU. We lived for the next nine years in West Seattle, a section of Seattle Washington. Our first child, Erika, was born in January of 1968 and our second child, Rob, was born in July 1970. In 1974, we moved to Redmond, Washington. In 1977, we moved to Bellingham, Washington and then to Ferndale, Washington in 1978. In 1979, we returned to the Seattle Metro area, Woodinville, where we lived for 18 years. During that stint we were charter members of a new UCC church and of a new Kiwanis Club. In 1997, we moved to a condo just south of Everett, Washington. In September 2002 we moved back into a house, this time in Stanwood Washington. We've been very active in churches, singing in their choirs, serving on boards and committees, teaching Sunda School, etc. We've also been very active in Kiwanis where we've each served as club President and Division Lt. Governor. We have 3 grandsons by Erika and Dave, who live next door to us. David was born in February 2000, Alex was born in January 2002 and Zachary was born in March 2006. We have 2 grandsons by Rob and Hannah, who live nearby in Woodinville, Washington. Isaac was born in January 2005 and Brian was born in October 2008. Erika and Rob also work for FSSI (see WORK) from home now and are shareholders along with Glenda and me. We have a big diesel-pusher motorhome the we us a lot. otes An-O-Chords. Glenda and I both sing in the Skagit Valley Chorale in Mount Vernon, Washington. We're both members of the Stanwood/Camano Kiwanis club. Life's been good to us and our children and we thank God for his blessings. Now that we're 70 and retired, we thought maybe we'd get to relax a little. Fat chance! We're now doing water aerobics three times a week, helping with a craft group at an assisted living and memory care facility, still singing with the Skagit Valley Chorale and the church choir. I'm an elder and chair our church's Finance Committee. Glenda is on the Worship Committee at church. I still am with the An-O-Chords barbershop chorus but I don't get to sing with them very often. In June we travelled to Moscow and sailed to Saint Petersburg with Viking Cruises. School Graduated Shaler Twp. High School 1961 College Graduated from Oregon State University (Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering) 1965, member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity; graduated from Pacific Lutheran University (Masters in Business Administration) 1977. Workplace Having your own business is a ball. Future Software Systems Inc. was started by me on May 31, 1984 and has thrived in recent years. My son and daughter work for the company. My office is in my house as it have been since 1985 - long commute. We develop custom software for managing distribution businesses. I can retire any time I want to, but I have entirely too much fun doing what I do, so don't expect to issue a retirement notice anytime soon. I just put that last statement to a lie! I've announced my retirement for the end of this year. My children, Erika and Rob, took over FSSI on January 1 of 2014 except I remain the President (in name only) and 20% owner.

Every person who has been married for a long time to the same person will agree that marriage isn't for the faint at heart; it's not always pretty. Those parts about "for richer or poorer" and "in sickness and in health" ar
