Robert's Story
I'm a real "rocket scientist" supporting the Boeing Delta rocket launch pads at Vandenberg Air Force Base near Lompoc, CA. Some of the missions are for the NRO - secret spy stuff that is exciting but means I live a very controlled, by the rules life. I'd like to retire now to the Carribean, but enjoy my job too much and would get bored doing nothing. Before that I supported the Shuttle program in Houston and then LA, have gotten inside the Shuttle and worked with various astronauts. Even got awarded the Silver Snoopy from the Astronauts. Out of grad school (studied inorganic chemistry) I worked for Exxon in their Polymers Division in Baytown, TX.
Played rugby for 15 years, the two teams I was on won the Texas state championship multiple times and we even went to the National Championship Final Four once. Due to sports, I've had 6 su...Expand for more
rgeries, so now I do less body pounding exercise but still play some full court basketball.
I do a lot of volunteer work at our local animal shelter (looking for just the right dog to adopt) and have four cats - my significant other's fault as she can't resist kittens. Plus I do volunteer work on Catalina Island involving scuba diving research (counting anilmals and plants) and crewing at the hyperbaric chamber for diving accidents.
Where I live in California is just a few miles from the ocean and one of the primo wine regions (watch the movie SIDEWAYS, filmed in the area) and I collect nice wines. Weather is almost always temperate, and a jacket is required most evenings year-round. Small town living after years living in the 4th and 2nd largest US cities; and I get to drive along the Pacific Ocean every day on the way to work!
