Robert's Story
Life
Following three years at Ruston High School, I attended La Tech for two years from 1981-1983. I transferred to NLU and in December of 1983 during our junior year, I married Bridgette Crotwell who was a nursing major at NLU (RHS class of 1981). I completed my BA in Sociology in 1985. I expected to become a 2LT in the Marines and to go to flight school, but due to a bad heat stroke during my last week of OCS, I did not become an officer after all. I stayed at NLU and completed an M.Ed in Guidance Counseling and then went to work as a claims adjuster for Commercial Union Insurance in Ruston, LA. Missing the airport (I was a Private pilot and loved flying), I attended La Tech and received a BS in Professional Aviation in Feb 1991. I worked as a flight instructor in Fort Worth, TX for a little over a year. In 1992 I flew as an air-ambulance pilot in a Beechcraft C-90 King Air for CareFlite in Dallas, TX. I left and became a co-pilot for Comair Airlines based in Cincinnati, OH, and flew a 30-passenger twin turboprop aircraft for a year and was laid off in 1994. I knew I had to get a marketable education and I couldn't spell "biology" so medical school was out. I could spell "law" two out of three times so that's what I did. I finished law school in 1997; passed the Texas Bar Exam in May of 1998; and in August of 1998 I began graduate law studies in Estate Planning Taxation at the Univ of Miami. I graduated with my LL.M. degree in 1999 and began practicing law in Conroe, TX doing estate planning, trusts/estates, offshore asset-protection trusts, probate and general business litigation. I left my law partnership to work as a Estates Settlement Trust Officer for Merrill Lynch Trust Co. for a while. I taught Business Law at Sam Houston State University for a year as an adjunct faculty member and still "fill i...Expand for more
n" when needed. I am currently practicing law doing tax and estate planning from my home. My practice mostly is dedicated to asset-protection planning where I set up offshore trusts for my clients. In May 2006 I finished a second LL.M. (Master of Laws) degree, this one is in Taxation from the Univ of Houston Law School with a focus on corporate taxation and tax litigation. I am still married to my bride of over 24 years (Bridgette). Due to some heath struggles (brain tumors, etc.) she was unable to have kids; but one day soon I hope to go buy a Surburban, drive by an orphanage, and fill it up with some kids and come home and ask Brit "what's for dinner?" Knowing Bridgette, she'll tell me it's my night to cook and it's looking a lot like a good night for Pizza Hut delivery!! Well, we'll wait and see how many kids we adopt. Brit and I both are active in our church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) and are both busy with Sunday School and other endeavors. Bridgette is a nurse (RN, BSN, MSN) and graduated with her Ph.D. in Health Studies from Texas Woman's University in May '06. She loves her job as an Asst. Professor of Nursing at the University of Texas (at the Texas Medical Center -- Houston). She and a buddy recently published a text book on Community Health Nursing that will be out Fall of 2008. Aside from her students, I think she likes the weekends and summers off part the best! We moved to Missouri City, TX (suburb of Houston) and our addy is 2623 Welborn Drive, Missouri City, Texas 77459, or you can write to me at my first and last name together at the yelling pace dot com. I can also be found at my last name plus law firm dot com (all together) as well. If you are ever in the Houston area please give us a holler as we both would love to hear from you. Take care and God bless! Rob
