Robert's Story
Life
After graduating in 1978, I immediately volunteered in the United States Marine Corps.I graduated three months later as Series Honor Man, the top gun out of 240 recruits. It was an honor and a very proud moment in my life. I was stationed in Camp Pendleton . In my military career, I was in a joint operational unit working across the different branches in Communications. I traveled to Arizona (Fort Huachuca), Georgia (Fort Gordon) Japan (Camp Hansen in Okinawa). In 1979 the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan and I was there. The U.S. provided training to many of these Islamic warriors and local resistance fighters. The result was bloody, confusing and civil war. I also was involved in the expansion of the US military base in Diego Garcia supporting a rapid deployment force and a more active U.S. presence. I was honorably discharged in June of 1982. I returned back to Fresno to be with my Family and friends. One month later, I continued with my plan and moved to the Bay Area. I lived in San Jose with some friends and was hired a few weeks later. I got on with one of the major Telecommunication Company. I have been employed in this industry for 24 years. I have traveled to many areas of the United States, Dallas Texas, Raleigh North Carolina, Chicago Illinois, Atlanta Georgia and Florida to mention a few. I met my wife in San Jose. We have been married for 24 years January 07 and have two young adults, Abrian 21 and Melissa 19. We have been traveling together all over the world. We try to visit a foreign country once a year. For the past 3 years we have been all over Latin America. I am a curious cat and do a lot of reading. I find people my most interesting subject. I was first driven to Mexico to research my families roots. I discovered many things about the my people, culture and religion. Last year (2005) my wife and I took two weeks and traveled to Mexico City, Guanajuato, Guadalajara and Puerto Viarta. We visited the great pyramids at Tenochtitlan. I had spent...Expand for more
6 months studying the Mayans and Aztecs and it was a life changing experience to see where they lived and to be atop of the Pyramid of the Sun. Words canÂt describe the beauty and wonders we uncovered on this trip. On Xmas Day (2006) we will be traveling to Vera Cruz to explore this area. I just completed a book called ÂThe History of Mexico by T.R Fehrenbach and reading it has motivated me to go deeper. I find the Spanish inquisition fascinating. One of my interests is peopleÂs religion. Before the Spanish arrived in Latin America, the indigenous people had a religion based on nature. The Spanish took this away, it has never been the same since. I am learning so much about this subject that itÂs almost an addiction. I can go on an on. I have many interest and try to pursue them all, I am a life student. I would love to hear from all who have taken the time to read about me. I extend an invitation for you to contact me. I want to share with youÂre a little something that has grounded my life.THE FOUR AGREEMENTS#1
BE UMPECCABLE WITH YOUR WORDS:Speak with integrity say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your words in the direction of truth and love.#2 DONÂT TAKE ANYTHING PERSONALLY:Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you wont be the victim of needless suffering.#3 DONÂT MAKE ASSUMPTIONS:Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.#4 ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST:Your best is going to change from moment to moment, it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.
