Fond memories of Merced High: I was a 4 year band member at Merced High School and during the spring of 1964 I broke my finger playing baseball in P.E. Coach Demro suggested I run with the track people so that I could get a grade in P.E. Coach Hawkins and Coach Demro came...Expand for more
out to watch me run against their 3 year champion Lee Dale. However, when they looked in and I was racing all of their trackmen, I won. Later, Coach Demro made me go out for track and participate in the Junior Olympics. I ran the 100 yard dash in 9.3 which was a world record!
