Robert's Story

It's been a long time since graduating from Springfield High School in June 1970! Went off to Lafayette College where I worked with Young Life and graduated early (to save my folks the tuition money and get out of school!). Started Seminary the day after I got married to Jan, a teacher at Moravian Academy in Bethlehem, Pa. Transferred to Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, California and began ten years in the glorious state. Earned a Master of Divinity, was ordained in the Presbyterian Church and took a job as Youth Pastor in Danville, California. Continued schooling (Doctoral program at Fuller and Graduate Business School at Berkeley) and ended up with a Doctorate. Moved to Dallas at the prompting of a friend, worked with Roger Staubach in commercial real estate in the mid 80's and then started a training and development and consulting business with a friend. Started my own company in 1995, Clear Direction, which is still my principal business. Was divorced from first wife in 1991 and raised my twin daughters (they were 8) for the next three and a half years - when I married Jill in 1994. Developed patented software technologies using a formal value science for business and relationship applications - and now have the most highly acclaimed and fasting growing software products in their industry sectors. Have written four books, speak in the US and in Europe, and have different awards for my works. Have a great job helping my clients maximize their businesses and high potential people - I am part of the reason that the Philadelphia 76ers and Flyers have had such fantastic growth and improvement in the past two and a half years. ing with CEOs, boards, and managing partners of large firms - I get to interact and advise, while working with super capable, interesting and influential people. Jill and I live in Dallas (in Carmel, Calif. in August), where she continues to improve our world (she is one of the founders of the Susan G. Komen Foundation and was the first Chairman after Nancy Brinker, raised $42,000,000 for cancer research from one gift in the early 1990's, led an organization that raised 7 million dollars for Dallas children's services in 2005, and presently serves on many boards which build our community and attend to the needs of underprivileged people). Presently I restore cars and play golf as hobbies - more golf than cars right now - but I attend the Concourse at Pebble Beach every year because of my car interest. Ultimately, we give to others because we have been so richly blessed. God has freed us from the consequences of our sins by Jesus' sacrifice on the Cross in our place, has given us hope because death has no power over us through His resurrection, and gives us "beyond this world" power to live in peace and joy in this world that is filled with brokenness and pain. I've got to say that I don't know how anyone could live a life of joy and peace without being blanketed by God's provision in terms of power to live today and assurance to face tomorrow. Deitrich Bonhoeffer noted in 1936 that people spend time and energy preparing to die but they spend no time or energy preparing to be dead - very subtle but important difference for us to consider.
