SSGT ROBERT A. SOUSA III
DETACHMENT COMMANDER
Staff Sergeant Sousa was born on 13 November 1976 in Orlando, Florida. Staff Sergeant Sousa enlisted in the Marine Corps in January 1997, and upon graduating from MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina in March of 1997, attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, North Carolina. Staff Sergeant Sousa then attended Direct Air Support Operators Course where he picked up his primary MOS of 7242. At this time, Private First Class Sousa joined Marine Air Support Squadron Two, MCCAS Futenma Okinawa, Japan. He participated in operations Cobra Gold, Hawaii Combined Arms Exercise, and Combined Arms Exercise Seven and Eight, serving as a Direct Air Support Net Operator. In November 1999, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal and was transferred to the squadron headquarters staff and served as the squadron operations Non Commissioned Officer for the remainder of his tour in Japan. Upon completion of his tour in Japan, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and received orders to Marine Tactical Air Command Squadron Forty Eight, Great Lakes Illinois. There he served as the Technical/Tactical Aviation Training and Readiness Non Commissioned Officer. In November of 2002, Sergeant Sousa became the squadron Operations Chief and deployed with his unit as the Tactical Air Command Center Crew Chief for Operation Southern Watch and Operation Iraqi Freedom. In June of 2003, Sergeant Sousa picked up the rank of Staff Sergeant and soon after reenlisted. Staff Sergeant Sousa is currently the Detachment Commander at American Embassy Port of Spain.
Staff Sergeant Sousa is married to the former Melissa Kay Vinson of Kankakee, Illinois.
