Robert's Story

Life After high school I took the travel route instead of the university route I'd always planned for. This cost me a few years but allowed me to finally 'grow up'. I met a beautiful young lady from New York City while travelling Europe with my brother in 1983. We carried on a 4 year, long-distance relationship which resulted in enough air miles to last a lifetime. I married Denise in the chapel on the grounds of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, U.S.A. in 1988. We returned to Canada after another tour of Europe and settled in Bradford, Ontario. I finished school at York University, finally making up for my earlier truancy. I now work for a large, U.S. insurance firm in Markham where I am currently a financial analyst. While my job has allowed me to see this beautiful country of ours, I began to resent the time away from my family. I've now disciplined myself to limit the time away. My wife Denise and I are blessed to have two sons, Connor and Landon born in 1993 and 1997 respectively. They are truly 'the lights of our lives' and we are totally...Expand for more
devoted to them. Yes, I'm still a golfer but more interested in both my son's games than my own. Yes, I'm still into Mustangs, more than ever. I've bought and sold enough over the years to finance our travel passion. Now, I don't like working on them constantly and like the newer generation Shelbys. My mother passed away in Florida in 1994, which still leaves a pain in my heart. My dad finally left Rexdale in 2005 and is doing just fine, living in Brampton, Ontario. I played golf with him at St. Andrews in Scotland for his 75th birthday, fulfilling a life long dream. My brother Gord and sister Heather still live in Ontario and we all still see each other regularily. I sincerely hope life has been as kind to all the folks I went to school with as it has been to me. I wish you all the best. Those high school days were the 'wonder years' of our lives, when we were at the top of our game. They remain a lifetime of memories, some bad, most good. I still long for those times, as I'm sure most of you do. It's with melancholy that I look back and write this.
