Robert's Story
Life
35 years at Grays Harbor Paper, I started in Nov. of 1977. I did have a year off in 1993 when I attended GHCC and started my AA.
School
Biggest crush? I still can't tell.... actually there were two.... ;)
College
I finished my AA at GHCC in Jan of 2006.... just something to do for myself I think, and now I want to work towards a BA from WSU through the Distance Degree program...
UPDATE! Ii'm now a Senior in the DD Program at WSU. Both of my daughters are in Alaska as are my grandchildren, and I am still at the Paper Mill. I just returned from my first trip to NYC with Jeanne and I can NOT wait to go back... Time Square at 01:00 AM is amazing... with a little Irish Wiskey thrown in... ;)
Another Update! I finished my BA from WSU in 20011 and I'm working on a BS in Accounting from WGU. My daughters are in Shelton, WA and George West, Texas. I have a new grandson, Declan, born in 2012.... Oh yes, and I'm on marriage #2 which I told myself would never happen.... Jeanne works for Wa. State.
Update #3 - Well, Grays Harbor Paper doesn't exist anymore! My last day there was May 17th, 20 13 (yes, let go on my birthday!). December of 2013 I went to work for the State of Washington as a WSS4 Trade Act Counselor at WorkSource. Learned a lot of new skills, met a LOT of absolutely wonderful people, both co-workers and clients. I left after 10 months, and started a new...Expand for more
career at Oval International in Hoquiam. I work in Engineering as an Applications Specialist, and I love the job. My oldest daughter and her family are living in George West Texas still, and my youngest is living in Eugene Ore. I still have a desire to write a book and be published..... we'll see!
Update: Feb. of 2015 I finished a BS in Accounting through WGU and Feb. of 2017 I am still at OVAL.... and I have a new Grand daughter in Texas and I'm flying down in March to meet her!!
2020 - Update! I left OVAL in 2018 and moved to Starbuck WA. to work in a brand new pulp mill - we make pulp out of wheat straw! It's a new industry so things aren't hitting on all cylinders but we are getting there!! New granddaughter born in Olympia in January of 2019, still surviving COVID 19....... stay safe, mask up!!
Update! 11/26/2023 - I left Columbia Pulp in March of 2022 and started at Willamette Falls Paper in West Linn Oregon in April 2022. I was laid off due to a down-turn in the market in April of this year (2023) and I opened an unemployment claim in WA, and on September 18th I attended my first class in the EWU Masters in Professional Accounting program. I don't miss Willamette Falls Paper, however, I do miss living in West Linn. They have some amazing parks, which gave me an opportunity to walk Boulder 2-3 miles a day. I will finish the MPAcc program in May of 2024.
