Robert's Story
In the jumble of years since I attended Devon, I have worked as prop man on a touring burlesque show; I traveled the world as a steward on a private yacht for a few years; I was an AIDS activist with ACT-UP New York: and I worked on Broadway (as well as touring to Japan and Australia) for thirty years as a backstage guardian for child actors, caring for more than five hundred wonderful kids on shows like LES MISERABLES, BILLY ELLIOT, MATILDA, and many others. he kids employed in Broadway shows now all have a decent wage, health insurance, holiday pay, and an annuity.
I'm retired now, but have been working with my husband (of 51 years) in presenting KATHLEEN TURNER: FINDING MY VOICE, an autobiographical show starring Kathleen, that we have taken to London, San Francisco, Chicago, New York, and other cities.
My fondest memory of Devon were the quiet, private moments I spent sitting by the abandoned pool. I hope some shy 15 year old takes out his ear buds and discovers the joy of sitting there in the evening and listening to the crickets and the frogs.
