Robert's Story
Life
After high school I worked at Chrysler for about 2 years and decided to go to college after being layed off for the last time. Ended up at Bishop College in Dallas for a year then on to Denver with good friends I had met at Bishop. I stayed there a year, working at Gates Rubber Co., then came to Beautiful Southern California where I had a lot of cousins, uncles and aunts.
Over the years I gotten jobs at Bank of America, then the Phone Co., then life insurance sales a few years, Fedex.
I had been going to Los Angeles City College studying fine arts and taking a couple of singing classes the first few years here.
I originally came to L.A. trying to get into art some kind of way but got side tracked into singing quite by accident. I met 2 fellow students at Los Angeles City College singing voice class who became instrumental for that. Fellow classmate Norman Beavers was a piano player(who later played with Lakeside) we would go out working different music venues, me singing, Him on the keys. Another classmate was actually a songwriter at Motowns Jobete Records. I did vocal tracs with him to sell his songs to the real artists there. We recorded right there at Motown. Thats a lot of excitement for a 23 year old kid. Did some nightclub gigs. I eventually gave it all up when I got in church. I couldn't sing gospel the traditional way people sing it or like to hear it so for all those years I only performed on special occasions and the choir. For a short minute I had a little singing group. I actually met and worked with a lot of well known secular musical artist who I was surprised actually went to church. The Emotions, El Debarge, Sheila (E),
Vernessa Mitchell of High Inergy who ended up being my best friend for years.

come an avid photographer and throughout the years I had become a glamour/entertainment and portrait photographer. Fun, Fun Fun!!! Miss those years.
I have been living in Pasadena,CA since 1978. Tried moving away a few times but always come back.
I had become a reasonably successful fine artist(painter)until this bad economy deal and am recovering from an illness that ended my musical aspirations about 1996. I couldn't sing for 9 years and could barely speak above a really painful whisper. It was a cancerous looking growth on my vocal cords, I had 2 surgeries a year apart(2005 & 2006) and Thank God it was not cancer, just one of the hazards singers and speakers have to deal with periodically. I am currently working up to getting a contemporary gospel disc together (nothing hard on the cords though since trying to do gospel might have damaged them the last time) and maybe a soft jazz disc. I love old time jazz.
I have 2 beautiful little girls named Samantha and Skye whom I adore. Sam is a typical teen with tons of friends and Skye is the over-achiever straite A student who prefers a skateboard than a pretty blouse.
In 1983 I had studied for the christian ministry and on occasion minister in song. Right now I work for a major shipping company and spend a few months out of the year traveling and participating in art festivals. I love it. I am an avid bike rider and spend a lot of time at the beach here in the L.A. area,Santa Monica, Venice, Marina del Rey, Malibu. I also stay healthy by eating right,no alcohol, smoking or drugs.I work out and try to keep company with happy people. Wish you were here.
