Roberta's Story
Life
I ended up switching from my music major to art in my third year of college; graduated with a B.F.A. (majoring in Advertising and Graphic Design) and received a minor in Marketing. I landed a job in Advertising (L.A./South Bay Area)shortly after graduation. Yes, the work was great, the money good and I still managed to play my flute-mostly jazz- with a copywriter friend (he played guitar) on our lunch breaks down at the beach. I eventually got married to a long time college friend, continued to work in Advertising (at a different company in Orange County), gave birth to two boys (three years apart),and kept up the same pace of work until 1993,when we moved to New Jersey.
Here in New Jersey we are surrounded by trees, ponds, lakes and clean air...truly beautiful. I decided that I wanted to actually 'see' my boys grow up, so I started my own company "another bright IDEa,prod." I worked from my home, You may say I was "art for hire";I did graphic and advertising design, marker comps, murals and any other art that pays, along with my own fine art.
In 2004 I gave up the design work and focused on my fine art only. The subject of my art usually comes from my dreams...so... it is often narrative. I have my own style that is a fusion of Illustrative and Contempora...Expand for more
ry Representation. But...since it's easier to show you than to tell you.... please take a moment to check out my website. It's my name: robertamillmanide..... place it between the typical start and finish and you'll find me! Or, just search for me on line! Or...better yet... you can find me on Facebook, LinkedIn, SaatchiOnline, Utopic Studios...etc.
Anyway....you get the idea.... I'm keeping busy.
My art can be found in many private collections throughout the U.S....but...it was in 2006 when I started 'exhibiting' my art work. I exhibit mostly in New York City and in northern NJ.... but I also exhibit in other states when given the opportunity. In Spring of 2010 I was juried in to a very old and prestigious organization called the National Association of Women Artists (NAWA). It was a great honor to be selected...and, once in, almost all of the Exhibits are by 'juried' selection. ...I love it.... it makes me strive to make each painting better than my last.
Sadly...."Artist" is not a money making career choice... and...It doesn't pay the bills very well (I teach privately, sell jewelry and giclees and do workshops to bring in a few bucks)... I'll never be rich....but creating Art is a wonderful obsession and I plan to continue it until the day I die.
