Roberta's Story
Life
I'm still living in the "land of the rising sun" and love being at home. Right now, I teach English conversation privately and have also been doing some vocal work for local commercials. I still love music very much!! One goal this year is to do some more back-up vocal work for some musician friends and to try and get some more CM jingle/narration work. I've decided to move back to Kanagawa Prefecture (where I grew up) in the next couple of years. It will be a big change for me, but I'm definitely looking forward to it!
School
After high school, I'd received a one-year scholarship for the Univ. of Maryland branch on Camp Zama. In order to use that scholarship, I had to work a full-time job since my parents weren't military. So, it was work all day and study at night. I guess that's what turned me off to a "higher education." After the first year, I was just tired and ended up following my boyfriend to CA. (But that's another story...)

n a few very different jobs. Working at Hawaiian Tel. at Zama, at a Japanese restaurant in Orange County, a fast-food place and then a computer software company in Seattle. Those have no relation to what I'm doing now, which is teaching English conversation to Japanese people. I have about 30 private/group class students, teach at one kindergarten, one elementary school, two hospitals and also at a local government office. It's really great to see the students progressing and seeing them being able to do and say things that they couldn't a few months before. This work has made me appreciate the teachers that I had in school. (Even the ones that I didn't like so much!) Other than teaching, I've also had the chance to do work singing jingles and doing narration for commercials and local companies. Music was always my first love in life. I feel so privileged to be able to do what I love so much. Maybe a jingle for a nationwide commercial is not too far out of reach? =)
